Things That Can Go Wrong In Apocalyptic Stories

From the Greek word "apokalyptein," which means uncovering or revealing, an apocalypse is a terrible event that changes the world as we know it so that it "reveals" a new world (kind of). It's a big disaster where the good guys win and the bad guys lose forever. In the Christian Bible, it means any big revelation, but now it's used to talk about any huge destruction or disaster, like a big war or a climate crisis.

But most people think of the zombie apocalypse.

In the past couple of days or hours, something really weird has happened. Maybe the government accidentally let out a dangerous virus they were studying. Maybe a voodoo spell went wrong. Maybe an alien spaceship sent a strange message to Earth, or it crashed and brought some dangerous stuff with it. Or maybe Hell is just too full.

Whatever the reason, the result is the same: dead people have come back to life and they're hungry for human flesh. Every time they eat someone, their numbers get bigger, and there's nothing anyone can do to stop them. As society falls apart, it's up to the brave heroes (or a group of misfits) to fight their way to safety or just keep fighting until things get better.

The Zombie Apocalypse has arrived.

Well, kinda.

In an escape room.

Junbi dragged me again to another hangout with her other friends. Yay. I never got to know them, and they never bothered to talk to me either so why was I being dragged into this mess?

The escape room was about a scientist accidentally putting a timer to release zombies (who keeps zombies in a lab anyways??) and we are there because of a school field trip and it's up to us to escape the facility before the zombies escape.

We were given 1 hour since we were 5 altogether, and we had... 20 minutes left. I swear this friend group is gonna be the death of me...

"This is so unfair! We've been trapped in this stupid room for, like, forever, and we're still clueless about what to do!" Guy A exclaimed, frustrated, as he paced back and forth in the room.

"Seriously, guys? It's just a dumb puzzle. Why don't we just smash the door and get out of here?" Girl B asked, rolling her eyes and crossing her arms.

"No way, we can't mess anything up. We gotta figure out how to solve this without wrecking anything," Guy C nervously said, running his hand through his hair.

"Hey, did you guys catch wind of that new movie dropping soon? It's gonna be epic!" Junbi exclaimed, distracted.

"No way, Junbi? We're stuck in this place, and you're talking about movies? Get it together, guys!" Girl B exclaimed, gesturing frantically.

"I've tried everything! Staring at the painting, tapping on the walls, nothing works!" Guy A exclaimed, throwing his hands up in frustration.

"Well, maybe we should just call it quits. This is a total waste of time," Girl B said, crossing her arms and leaning against the wall.

I guess it's up to the honor student to help them... again. I swear, these people can't do anything at all.

"Hey, um, excuse me, everyone," I spoke up softly, stepping forward. "I hate to burst the bubble, but do any of you even remember that flower painting?"

"You mean those three flowers that look like traffic lights in a vase?" Girl B asked, raising an eyebrow. "Yeah, but honestly, they didn't mean anything special."

No, that's wrong! "I get that it may seem unimportant at first, but has anyone bothered to check the back?"

"Oh, totally forgot! Has anyone checked it out?" Junbi asked, turning to the others, and all of them shook their heads.
