CHAPTER THRITY FOUR: THE END
'LEE JAEYUN'
Jaeyun sat in the grand living room of the mansion, the opulence around him offering no comfort. The soft glow of the lamps did little to dispel the darkness that seemed to have settled in his heart. His phone lay on the coffee table, the screen displaying a message from an unknown number.
With a sense of dread, he tapped the notification and opened the message. The photo that greeted him was a blow to his chest: Heeseung and Felony, his husband’s former lover, seated close together at a bar.
The message read: *“Is this who you married?”*
Jaeyun’s breath hitched as he scrolled through more photos: Heeseung and Felony on a bed..naked, there were many more of them.Each image seemed to mock the trust he had placed in his husband.
He had always been aware of Felony’s past. Heeseung had told him about it early in their relationship, explaining that their romance had ended years before Jaeyun came into the picture. He had trusted Heeseung’s word and believed that their past was just that—a past. Seeing them together now felt like a cruel joke.
Unable to endure the weight of his suspicions any longer, Jaeyun stood up from the couch, his heart pounding with a mixture of anger and despair. He marched down the hallway to Heeseung’s study, each step echoing the finality of his decision.
The door creaked open, revealing Heeseung seated at his desk, surrounded by legal documents. His husband looked up, surprised to see Jaeyun’s anguished face.
“Heeseung!” Jaeyun’s voice was a harsh cry in the quiet room. “We need to talk.”
Heeseung’s eyes widened at the sight of Jaeyun’s distress. “Jaeyun, what’s wrong?”
Jaeyun slammed his phone onto the desk, the screen displaying one of the photos of Heeseung and Felony. “How do you explain this?” he demanded, his voice thick with emotion.
Heeseung’s eyes followed the image, and a pained expression crossed his face. “What are you talking about i don't-”
“Don’t act like you don’t know!” Jaeyun retorted. “ I thought you were over her. But here you are, having drinks with her as if nothing happened!”
Heeseung stood up, trying to reach for Jaeyun’s hand. “Please, let me explain. It’s not what it looks like.”
Jaeyun jerked his hand away, tears of frustration and betrayal brimming in his eyes. “Not what it looks like? You were seen out with her,and I know she’s someone you were once involved with. How could you betray me like this?”
Heeseung’s face was a mask of desperation. “Jaeyun-ah..i don't remember meeting her you know how much i hate her i would never do thay to you”
Before Jaeyun could respond, the door to the study opened and six figures appeared in the doorway. Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon, Ni-ki, , had been alerted by the commotion and had come to see what was happening.
“What’s going on?” Sunghoon asked, glancing between Jaeyun and Heeseung.
Jaeyun looked at them, his voice trembling. “I just found out that Heeseung was seen with Felony. I thought he was over her, but apparently, he’s been meeting with her. I can’t trust him anymore.”
Sunoo stepped forward, concern etched on his face. “Jaeyun, maybe there’s a misunderstanding here. We know Heeseung well. There must be an explanation.”
Jaeyun shook his head, his anger simmering. “I saw the photos. How can you defend him?”
Jungwon put a hand on Sunoo’s shoulder, trying to mediate. “I don't really remember any felony but i am sure, heeseung hyung would have his own reasons”
Heeseung took a deep breath, turning to face his friends. “i don't remember even meeting her! ”
Ni-ki, always the most empathetic, stepped closer to Jaeyun. “hyung we’ve been around Heeseung hyung for a long time. We know he’s a man of integrity. Maybe you should hear him out.”
Jaeyun looked at them, his tears mingling with his resolve. “I appreciate that you’re trying to help, but I need to deal with this on my own. I’m devastated, and I don’t know if I can trust Heeseung anymore.”
Sunghoon took a step forward, his voice firm. “Jaeyun, if you’re really questioning Heeseung, maybe you should talk it through. Acting on anger won’t fix anything.”
Jaeyun ignored them, his eyes still fixed on Heeseung. “I’m done with this. I need to leave. I can’t be here anymore.”
Heeseung reached out a hand, his voice filled with desperation. “Jaeyun, please. Don’t do this. Let’s work through this together.”
Jaeyun shook his head, his heart breaking with every step. “I need space to think. I need to get away from here.”
He turned and walked out of the study, the cold night air hitting him like a slap. He grabbed his coat and headed for the car, his friends’ concerned calls fading behind him.
As he drove away from the mansion, the city lights blurred past him, a haze of colors that reflected his emotional turmoil. The road stretched out before him, dark and lonely, mirroring the emptiness he felt inside.
The drive was a blur of dark roads and fading city lights. His thoughts raced through memories of Heeseung, their past conversations, and the images of Heeseung and Felony. The anger and hurt overwhelmed him, pushing him further into a storm of emotions.
Suddenly, the headlights of an oncoming car pierced the darkness. In his distracted state, Jaeyun failed to react in time. He swerved, but it was too late. The car skidded out of control and crashed violently into the roadside barrier.
The world outside the car went silent in the aftermath, the screech of metal and the crunch of glass the only sounds breaking the stillness. Jaeyun sat dazed, pain radiating through his body. His phone lay beside him, the screen still showing the damning images of Heeseung and Felony.
