Today would be a great day, Ines told herself as she woke up with Lola's brown fur collected on her face. Ines removed the covers off of her body and stretched her arms while giving Lola a small, tight hug. She adjusted her pajamas while getting out of her luxurious bed, which nearly took an eternity to do. It was around 6:30 AM as Ines stepped into a nice, warm shower in the forest-themed bathroom across the hall on the upper floor. She had spent some of her time straightening her mother's old hair straightening heating tool, along with doing her daily skincare. She sprayed her bottle of rosewater across her beaming and glowing face, feeling very fresh. After doing her classic makeup look with a dab of lifting concealer and lip gloss, she stepped out of the bathroom to endure the aroma of sweet pancakes and strawberries, her most favored delicacy.
She didn't see Lola or her father as she walked down her staircase - perhaps Father took Lola out for her morning walk - but the table was fully set. There were neatly sorted plates that contained a main dish of pancakes with butter cleansing it, along with a glass of coconut water and a fruit bowl to the side. Chocolate chips were set in the middle of the table - between her and her father's plate. They would always love it with their plain pancakes.
Father entered the kitchen through the backyard while carrying Lola's pink leash upward, as he saw his daughter taking off Lola's small harness of her torso.
"Ines, you look... just like your mother." Ines loved how Father would always talk about Mother like she was still here, it was somewhat an act of kindness expressed sneakily through words. It never sounded incorrect, and instead felt pure.
"Hi, Daddy." Ines smiles at her father and sits at the table while Lola tries to reach up to Ines's mellow orange summer dress.
Father breathed in and sat at the table. "My dear Ines... happy birthday, sweetheart. Let's eat your favorite meal, shall we?"
Ines and Father talked about going to Bernal, collecting money from the bakery, family gatherings, and plans.
After Ines wiped her mouth after eating almost everything on her plate, she drank her coconut water as her father went to the fridge, taking out a square box as soon as the doorbell rang.
"Go get the door, my big girl." Father set down the box on the counter as Ines ran to the front door, she saw her best friend before her, wearing a green version of her dress. Her white bike was lying in their driveway, next to Ines's.
"Ines!" She screamed, "You look gorgeous. Happy birthday, baby!" Right after the sweetness, Ines's best friend pushed Ines away to the smell of food and the sight of Lola.
Ines laughed while her eyes blinked once or twice.
Father frowned. "Louise is already here?" He walked into the doorway as Louise was laughing, bending down to the floor to hug Lola and her wagging tail.
"You know her, Daddy. She'll do anything for food."
"I suppose it's a good thing we already finished the main meal." Father led the two girls to the counter, as Lola went to the living room to attend to her dog food.
"I came here as soon as I could," Louise breathed, pushing back her short, curly blonde hair behind her left ear. "At least I get rewarded with the cake I made, don't I?"
Ines's mouth nearly dropped as Father lifted the box, revealing the beautiful circular cake with an imprint of a spotless rose painted on it by different flavors of icing.
"Louise Beaumont! You made this?" Ines was flabbergasted.
"I have a hidden talent." Louise gave a bow, as Father laughed.
