Mission 5: Final Straw

Hello everyone. This is the fifth chapter of Shattered. This will get annoying, but I need to put this out there with every chapter (P.S if you know the drill already, skip this). Disclaimer: I am not an expert nor a person who underwent child abuse. I am really sorry if I get it wrong and/or offend anyone who has gone through it. Also sorry for long wait I was busy.  

TW: child abuse and some gore. if you wish to continue, don't say I didn't warn you. 

Third POV 

Flashback (A/n: this takes place while Quinn was treating Frankie's wounds) 

As the children sit down for dinner, a giant thundering pound at the door makes them jump out of their seats and stand up.  They all knew what was to come: their father was at the door. As quickly as they could, each of them hurried to their seats, standing with arms and hands straight.

"Hello children."  the father said. Blood is trickling down his head from Quinn's hit earlier. They say nothing about it in fear of getting a beating. 

"Hello father" the remaining three children said with as much respect possible. Obviously Mariai didn't utter a single word from her mouth.  Edward notices this and as a result, activates his fire power from his hand. The siblings' hearts pounded in fear knowing full well what was going to happen. 

You're probably wondering " Why don't they stand up to him and use their powers?". Because they know if they do anything, they will be included in the punishment. 

He turns her around with his fire free hand and starts to burn her back and arms. Mariai screams out of pain and agony. Her siblings start crying rivers as a result. They badly want to do something but feel powerless against him. 

After what felt like an eternity, but was really only near a minute, he stops. Out of anger, he flips the table over, causing everything to crash onto the floor. He walks out and slams the huge door hard.

Thankfully that's when Quinn and Frankie come in on the horrific scene. 

End of flashback 

 8:10 pm 

In the Treatment Wing (just imagine no stools and there are longer matts on the floor)

Starlight's POV

As the nurses finished (yes, they have staff LOL) treating Mariai's burns, I heard a loud punch.  Turn to see Quinn with his arm on the wall, head up against his arm, and waterfalls streaming down his face. I walk over to him, putting a hand on his shoulder. 

"Don't beat yourself up Lil Brother. You would've never guessed something so vial would occur." I said trying to comfort my enraged sibling. 

"YOU DON'T UNDERSTAND STAR! I SHOULD'VE BEEN THERE TO PROTECT HER. I'M HER OLDER BROTHER." Quinn exclaims with rage and grieve. 

"I understand how you feel. As the oldest, I feel the same failure you are experiencing." 

"But I'm the older brother. It's also my duty to protect all my siblings" Quinn said with a sad tone. I pull him into a very warm hug while rubbing my hand on his back. 

Frankie then begins to speak to us.

" This is off topic, but I do agree with what Quinn said earlier. None of us can live like this anymore."  

"I hate to say it but...I also agree." 

 I then look at all my siblings as most nod in agreement. l then look at Tyra who looks concerned about something.

"Tyra, are you ok?" I ask worried. She turns her head and begins to talk

Tyra's POV

"I agree but.... we're merely children and have little knowledge of the world beyond. what will we do?" I spoke.  

"We'll figure something out. For now, we need to think of an escape plan. And fast."  Starlight said as she sat next to Mariai while tenderly stroking her hair. 

We all looked at each other and back at Mariai with all her burn marks. Just by reading the room, it was clear what was going to be done. 

This was the final straw
