I scanned around the cafeteria the next morning, looking for that red-haired girl. Man, was the cafe always this full? I think it's more of the fact that I actually have to try for someone for once, rather than going out and having girls chase after me...
Nah.
What am I worried about?! The great Kai Smith! I should have no problem talking to a girl who wants me just as bad as I want her. Just walk over there, Say something cool, and make her laugh. Easy, right?
"Dude, where are you going?!" Cole noticed me stand up to get ready to leave. Shit! I was trying to leave the table without getting noticed!
"Nowhere. Just... thought I'd, uh, grab another drink," I responded quickly.
"Drink Table is uhh... thataway?" Jay pointed in the opposite direction of where I was going. "The only thing that's that way is- ohhhhhh." A huge smirk appeared on his stupid face.
Maybe I didn't burn him enough.
"I'm just taking the scenic route!" I tried to defend myself.
"Really?" Lloyd spoke up. "Scenic route in the... inside the cafeteria, that you can't go outside because it's raining."
Come ON Lloyd! You're supposed to help me out here!
"Maybe I like looking around the cafeteria," I spat. Who does he think he is to tell me what to do with my free time?
"No, you don't! Say hi to Skylor for us!" Cole rebutted and laughed. If today couldn't get any worse. I looked over to the table and saw them laughing at something Nya said. I hope Nya didn't mess shit up for me either.
Zane patted me on the back. "Don't lose your confidence now, 'Duke Dennis' "
"Shut up man! I got this." I rolled up my sleeves and walked off as the others chuckled.
Great! Now I have a full audience. No pressure. Just walk over there and don't trip over your own feet. And don't look at Jay or Cole's stupid faces.
I trudged over to the table and began to overhear their conversation.
"He tried to skateboard down a fucking railing! And he fell, so you can guess where that landed him," Nya laughed.
"Let me guess, hospital?" Harumi snorted.
"Yes! Permanent Scar, right on his face! He tries to pass it off as he got into a battle with a criminal, but anyone with half a brain knows that's not true."
Damnit! The stupid skateboard accident. I didn't even get to lie about it yet, and here Nya goes blabbing off about it. I'm so cooked if she opens her big mouth to everyone else in the school.
"Well, well, well. If it isn't the man of the hour?" Nya noticed my approach to the table.
"Yeah, yeah, can it sis. I'm here to talk to someone else,"
"Ooooh!" The table went. "And who might that be?"
"That's the problem." I turned to Skylor, who seemed quite amused at the moment. "She wants to know what my name is, don't you girlfriend?"
The table fell silent. I looked over to the guys, who stared at me with horror and facepalmed.
"So it's Kai. Hi." I quickly finished.
What. The. Fuck. Was THAT? "What my name is, girlfriend?" A Tyler reference, seriously?! Smooth man, real smooth. If this gets out, I'm never living it down! I can still save this.
