As (Y/N) sat down in English class, not even a second later Jay walked through the doors. His hand cupped his mouth to hide the large smile that stretched across his lips while his shoulders shook trying to stifle his laugh. As he slung his bag off of his shoulder and sat down beside her, he shook his head softly, something obviously amusing him greatly.

"What?" She raised a brow, her eyes meeting his amber ones that sparkled in amusement.

"I heard from a friend about yours and Mikael's little spat in math," he responded with a smirk as he propped his head up, the various tattoos inked across his brown skin now more visible. "He had been near you two and had heard everything. Such colorful words you used... it's quite entertaining, no? God... I wish I could've seen that."

(Y/N) bristled.

Seriously?

How did this 'friend' hear that?

Well... I guess when you grab someone by their shirt it's bound to draw attention.

Great...

"He was being an asshole, okay?" She scowled before crossing her arms over her chest and looking away. "I'm so glad you're enjoying my misery, though..."

"Of course," he leaned in closer to her. "And Mikael is always an asshole."

"What a shock."

"Isn't it?"

She stared at him, and he stared at her, and for the first time since Jay had met her, she smiled. It was a small one, but it was there, sharing in the teasing and subtle jabs toward Mikael, a brother that seemed to hate both of them. Jay couldn't help but find that when she looked relaxed, she looked like a completely different person, having always had the sense that she was jittery and on edge whenever they were at the Ramone mansion.

It was nice.

"By the way..." he hummed as he tapped a finger steady against the top of his desk, his eyes now tracing the teacher's form as she started to begin class. "...you didn't tell anyone about our little run-in in the garden, right?"

"Huh?" Her gaze slid to the side of her eyes. "Why would I do that?"

"I'm not saying that you would," he shrugged before then leaning back in his chair, smirking at a girl who had turned her head backward to look at him. "I just wanted to make sure that you hadn't."

"How cryptic."

"Isn't that just what's so amazing about me?"

She looked at him blankly.

He still smiled.

Letting out a breath, (Y/N) turned her attention back to the front and began to dutifully take notes while Jay slacked off and continued to talk to the girl in front of him, her mind eventually wandering to that night in question that he didn't want her to being up. When thinking about it, she remembered that his expression was serious and thoughtful, unlike the easygoing and relaxed one that he so often displayed to everyone else.

Is that it?

What he wants me to not tell?

That's hilarious.

Rolling her eyes at the rather ridiculous thought, she then almost fell over when Jay suddenly leaned over to throw an arm around her shoulder and bring her chair closer to his, feeling his breath on her ear as he asked, "What's my dear little sister thinking about so intensely?"

She shoved him back, feeling her cheeks burn and her features morph into something of confusion and bewilderment all wrapped in one.

Ugh...

    That friggin' cringey nickname...

"Wow..." he chuckled, finding her actions rather adorable. "Who knew you would be so jumpy?"

"Not my fault you're trying to tug around an injured person while saying such creepy things," she grumbled as she swiped at her shoulder to smoothen the wrinkles in her shirt, her eyes meeting the girl's that Jay had just been talking to before, her brows cinching when she only received a sharp glare. "And, uh... I don't know about me, but I don't think your girlfriend over there likes that. And neither do I, as a matter of fact."

"Hm?" Jay's smirk seemed to broaden as he looked at the other girl and then back to her. "Her? She's not my girlfriend. Why are you asking? Were you wanting to enter something... taboo?"

As he asked that, he one more leaned in.

She once more pushed him away.

"How about we not?" She sighed, glancing to the clock to figure out when she would be able to escape from the class and Jay as a whole. "And if anything, what's taboo about you and I is how you asked me to hide the fact that you like to play violin. Like, seriously? You don't want people to think you're weak, or something?"

He frowned.

"Right..." (Y/n) put her hands up. "Sorry, I shouldn't have pried. Just couldn't help but wonder."

"Wait... was that what you were thinking about earlier?" Jay snickered, the delight on his expression returning much to the expense of (Y/N)'s pride. "Well, if that's the case, I'll tell you. It's not that I don't want to come off as weak, but it's personal to me. My mother... taught me how to play. That's all."

She stiffened.

Shit.

Brought up the deceased mother...

"Ah... I see..." she chuckled awkwardly, immediately springing up at the sound of the bell—or as well as could with a broken leg—and moving to collect her bags to hightail it out of the awkward conversation. "Well, gotta go, bye!"

And with that, she was gone.

Jay blinked.

Then he laughed.

It startled the other people in the room who were just beginning to pack up, they looking behind them just to find him still leaning back in his chair with his head back laughing at nothing. While they wondered what was wrong with him, they didn't question it since they knew of his reputation and what he could do to anyone who crossed him.

So naturally, to see him laughing like he was in that moment made chills crawl through them.

Except one.

And she wasn't the least bit amused.
