Mackenzie
"Ryken!" I called after him.
He kept walking toward our room, pretending he couldn't hear me. I knew he could. I was calling his name loud enough for damn China to hear.
"Ryken, stop!" I said but he shoved through the door into our room and slammed it behind him.
I huffed and took a minute to calm down the rage inside me. It was stemming from the aching pain stabbing me in the heart but I had to handle that and get over it.
If Ryken was rejecting me...again... then I had to just accept it like I had last time.
So why was mind mind screaming at the idea of letting him go this time?
I put my palm against the door then leaned my forehead on it, closing my eyes so I could have a moment of peace before I let Ryken dig his blade of rejection in deep.
After spending so much time with him, unintentionally having feelings for him, I was out of my depth with my emotions but that was my issue.
He didn't have to care. He didn't have to accept me. But I'd be damned if I let him go without at least an explanation of why.
I thought we had been on the same page. Working towards something that meant more to both of us.
Or I was delusional. And a naive tool he had been using to get the information he needed.
I had to find out either way. Even if it hurt.
So I let myself into the room, closed the door, and looked up at Ryken who was leaning, facing the wall on the left side of the bed, his arm up, his head against it.
"Ryken..." I said, stepping closer but he shook his head.
I planted my feet and waited for him to turn.
It took a while and the wait was silent and excruciating.
Finally, I'd had enough of giving him his chance to explain.
"I get it, you don't want to be mated to me, I'm sorry, I can't change that but you could've just told me that instead of pursuing this information with me," I snapped, folding my arms across my chest.
Ryken spun fast, storming over to me, "I never said I didn't want you Mackenzie," he said on a growl before he hauled me into him, crashing his lips into mine.
He caught my gasp with his mouth, his tongue slipping against mine.
I moaned, my arms moving to clutch him.
His arm held me against his body, tight around my waist as he tasted me desperately.
He kissed me feverishly like he was scared I would pull away.
I wanted to, I needed to understand his reactions but he tasted so damn good.
I was powerless against him when he kissed me so well. My willpower didn't exist and it was too easy to give in to the desires that he created.
"Ryken..." I murmured against his mouth.
He pulled away, breathing hard, his hand sliding up the side of my face so he could hold it to look at him.
"I don't understand," I whispered.
"He will kill you, Kenzie. If we get back the bond, he will kill you. If we don't, you have a chance to survive him. To run like before," he said, his voice pained more than I had ever heard it.
"I'm sick of running. I don't want to go back to before," I argued.
"You have to. He won't let you in the pack."
