Chapter Seven: Meet the fabulous Miss Midnight!

AIZAWA WASN'T REALLY SURE why he came tonight. He had enough to do; with entrance exams coming up and exam papers to finish marking. He wasn't particularly close with his colleague who asked for this favour either. As a hero, it would be nice to say that he did it out of obligation — but he was plenty aware that he was much too selfish for that.

"She's in there?" Midnight stammered. It was strange to see the classically assertive heroine so nervous. For a mere hero in training, nevertheless. Aizawa remained silent, watching as her blue locks tussled to and fro. "And you haven't mentioned it to her?"

"When the time is right." Mirko — the girl's teacher — replied. Midnight nodded, letting out a shaky exhale as she moved to the broad door before her. With one simple movement, she slid it open, her red nails digging into her palms as she peered inside.

"She's grown up so much..." Aizawa stared at his colleague with uncertainty, trying to catch a glimpse of whoever was stood in that arena. Mirko went first, leading the trio down the stairs towards the disconcerted teen who glared at each of them in turn — as if she were trying to figure them out.

You frowned, flashing your pearly whites in warning as your mentor bounded toward you. "Who are they?"

"Bunny! I missed you~!"

You ignored the claim, crossing your arms over as she came and stood besides you. "Why have you got me here so late? Saturdays are my day off."

"I shouldn't be giving you a day off at all." Mirko pointed out. "You're not nearly ready for your exam."

You furrowed your brows in irritation. "That doesn't answer my question."

"They are teachers." She responded. "And my friend Midnight here has volunteered to help us."

"Help?" You suppressed a scoff for the pair stood before you, glancing them up and down. "I can't see them being able to teach me anything."

Mirko sighed, and you could see her gesturing an apology over at the two pros, before turning back to you. "Don't be a little shit. You might think you're strong but don't let it go over your head that you've only just started on this path. And in this career, connections are everything, so a little respect wouldn't hurt."

You felt your cheeks heat up from the scolding — maybe what you said had been a little rude. But not that any of it wasn't true. "Whatever." You responded. "Let's get this over with then."

You and Midnight faced each other in the arena, now devoid of anyone except for yourselves. As always, you began oppressively; rushing towards your opponent to see how many hits you could land.

One to the face, the stomach, and then the back of her knee was all it took to disengage her. You glanced at her panting body knelt on the floor. Could it have been any easier? You supposed it was probable that she wasn't going to be as strong as Mirko, who was currently the number 5 hero. In fact, it would have surprised you more if she had been somewhat on-par with your mentor, who so far had been your main training partner for these past few months.

Your lips parted in shock as a purple mist began to swirl around your feet. Her quirk? You spun around to see her no longer on the floor; but stood up, emitting this mysterious lilac gas through a hole in her sleeve. You grit your teeth as a playful smile graced her lips. Seems this was her trump card. Her only one at that. But that didn't ease you in any way shape or form. You'd never exposed yourself to an emitter quirk before, so you had no idea what your body would do. All you could do was maintain your distance, so she wouldn't be able to land a quick hit which could loose you the fight.
