Chapter Eight: Shitty Woman

BAKUGO KATSUKI WAS AS CUT-THROAT AS THEY CAME. His planet-sized ego which had plenty to show for it made for a rather unfortunate combination, and a potent ability to drive fear into those around him. Never had anyone dared look him in the eye. Never had anyone stood equal to the teenage boy blessed with his Herculean power. Bakugo Katsuki was overflowing with potential — a prodigy in the making — who, in his own little world; believed that he alone had reserved the spot of number one. That was, until he met you.

"Oh, hi Katsuki! Nice to see you again." He opens the door with a scowl, feeling sick to the core as he looked at your smile. A perfect polished smile fit for a hero.

It seemed you were the epitome of what a hero in training aiming for the top spot should be. Or that's what everyone had kept trying to ram into his head. His mom said you were being trained by the number 5 hero, and had gained the favour of numerous other pros on your journey. That damned hag wouldn't stop talking about your, 'amazing personality!' and 'illustrious charisma!' He'd bet that she had more nice things to say about you in the couple hours that you had met than about him throughout his 15 years of living.

He hated you. It had only been a day and he despised your god damned guts. He wanted you gone. Now. Haven't you already screwed up his perspective on things enough? Katsuki felt a spark ignite in his hands as you held eye contact without even a glimpse of nervousness. Looking at it objectively, this was just a boy feeling threatened by the shining confidence of a girl, however, it was plain to see that his feelings went deeper, because suddenly, Bakugo Katsuki wasn't the only one capable of making it big as a hero. Suddenly, a new competitor had entered the ring. One with more training, and more prospects than himself. This 'boy' wasn't just threatened. He was scared.

Katsuki didn't reply to your greeting. He merely turned on his heel, leaving the door open with the hopes that you'd pay his mom and then get the hell out. Because he sure as hell wasn't gonna sit back and relax while his competitor raced ahead.

Around an hour later, the apprehensive boy had calmed down. His mom's shitty music blasted from the radio, and the smell of rice cooking had diffused into his room through the crack beneath the door. It was a routine he was familiar with, and it made him feel at ease. At ease as he could be, anyways.

Slinking down the staircase, he followed the aroma of warm food through the dining room and into the kitchen. Within the last year, this house has become his only sense of normality. With Deku's pathetic pledge to join UA alongside him, and your sudden appearance, it was made apparent that the closer he got to joining his dream school, and becoming a hero, the more disorganised and uncontrollable his life became.

"KAT-!" He turned the corner just as his mom was about to shout his name. "Oh! There you are Katsuki. Go set the table for four places."

The boy halted in his movements. "Fuck you mean four?" He could feel his teeth grinding as he mulled over the possibilities of why they needed an extra place.

"Four places. You're not as numb as you are an ass are you?" He grunted in response, reigning in his anger for once. He'd save that for later. "Good! Now go set the table." Begrudgingly, the boy did as he was told before sitting in his usual spot and pulling out his phone. As a 'pass time', he decided it wouldn't hurt to do a little research. That's how he consoled himself as he quickly typed your name into the search bar, but he was left dissatisfied, as there was nothing public surrounding your mysterious character. His eyes flickered up as he watched someone enter the room, a steaming bowl of rice in hand.
