Paige

It was now close to noon and Azzi had fallen back asleep. I pride myself out of her arms and headed over to the kitchen. My head was still pounding with every step I took. The fact that I could barely remember any of the events from the night prior sent me flashing signals that I should never drink again.

...

Waking up this morning with my arms holding a body scared the shit out of me and to top it off I had no idea what had happened. If it had been a one night stand I would have just left quietly but this was my room, where was I supposed to leave too. I always made it a rule to never bring any of my girls home to my place for this exact reason but looking down at our bodies, we were both fully clothed and seeing to what point I was drunk basically confirmed that we had done nothing sexual. Leaning down to look at the body that was between my arms, the feeling felt familiar. The way My arms wrapped around her waist, the way my head fit perfectly in the crook of her neck, something about this felt right. Soaking up the moment, I pushed my head down, resting my chin on the top of her head. Inhaling deeply, I was met with a strong jasmine sent that I also recognized. God it was Azzi.

...

I had made myself somewhat of a nutritious meal, meaning that I made myself eggs and toast, hoping to help clear away the headache. As I was eating, slowly some things started coming back to me from last night. The bar, the shots, the dancing. Everything was coming back in flashes. I could recognize every action I took but I couldn't place a name to any of the faces I was seeing. I guess I would juste have to trust Azzi and believe I hadn't done anything stupid with anyone while I was waisted.

Azzi walked out of my room still in her pyjamas, a tight white lace tank top and pink boxer shorts. Her hair was down in its natural state, a little frizzy but still perfect. In silence, she sat beside me and ate the food I had made for her, knowing she wouldn't be asleep for much longer. I watched her eat, keeping the silence, observing her every move. I noticed the goosebumps on her arms and legs, and quickly took of my Uconn hoodie offering it to her.

"Thank you" she whispered, grabbing the hoodie from me.

"When you're done, you want to go play a little 1v1 outside?" I asked her.

"Yea for sure I'll just go change" she answered. Following her initiative, I headed to my closet and grabbed a pair of shorts and a t shirt while throwing on another of my Uconn hoodies, this one being the team hoodie while Azzi had my personal one, it having my name and number on the back. Walking out of my room I was met with the younger girl wearing a pair of bright pink shorts. Her back to me, she hadn't changed out of my hoodie wearing my name proudly on her back. Something about the sight made me flustered. She had slicked her hair back into a low ponytail while I had just decided to throw it up into a loose ponytail.

"You ready to go" I asked her gently, placing on hand on the small of her back, trying to grab her attention without scaring her. She answered with a small nod, avoid eve contact. For the past few hours she had been avoiding crossing my eyes and seemed on edge. Maybe I'd said something? The thing about Azzi was that she barely ever opened up about why she was either mad or frustrated with me which made the communication in our friendship very limited. Sometimes it could be annoying having to literally guess for potential reasons but I'd gotten used to it by this point.

We opted on walking down to the outside court seeing as it was somewhat of a nice day. Even if it was summer, the weather felt more like a fall morning, a little cold but humid. Apart from the small amount of conversation I would try to initiate, we walked in silence until we made it to the court.

"First to 11?" I asked her, trying to lighten the mood. It seemed to work as she smiled towards me as she walked away from me with the ball.

"You're going to lose again you know" she teased.
