Not Guilty[UNDERGOING CONTRUCTION]

Chapter 19

Cory's POV

We walked into the Police Station and I made a b- line to the front desk.

"I'm Cory, this is Skai, and our friends Jess, Lance, and Zac." I told the lady, who looked about thirty years old.

"I'll be right back," she answered as she ran off to somebody's office in the back.

I could hear her yelling something at a man who's words made him sound surprised.

She ran back out with a man who had a badge on his shirt. It said "Sheriff Andersen."

"Hello, I'm the sheriff here in Huntington and my secretary just told me the children that went missing from Utah seventeen months ago where standing here." He said while pointing to that lady who was sitting at the desk again, rapidly typing on the keyboard of her computer.

"We have been gone for seventeen months? Wow, guess we lost track after being tortured.... Anyways, yes that is us. I'm Cory, this is Skai, Jess, Lance, and Zac." I answered pointing to my friends.

"I know your names, but wasn't there another girl, I think her name was.... Sage?" He asked us in a worried tone.

"Umm, well when we were trying to escape, she was.... She was killed." Skai said, her eyes beginning to water.

"Oh well, I'm sorry for your loss. Anyways, I am going to take each one of you in for an interview, one-by-one, and ask you questions. We have a vending machine over there, and some chairs too while you are waiting." He said pointing over to the navy blue chairs and vending machines.

"Okay, I think we should start with Zac." I answered and he nodded in agreement.

"Alright. And I want to remind you all that you need to stay in the station until we find the man who took you. Mrs.Emeralds can answer any questions you have." He said and then they walked away.

Lance and Jess sat next to each other, whispering about who knows what. Skai and I sat next to each other on the uncomfortable chairs.

"I can't believe we got away from him..." She said, tears were rolling down her cheeks now.

"I know, we get to go home." I answered and a smile emerged from her bloodshot eyes.

"I wonder if we can call our family." She looked at me and I shrugged my shoulders.

"Let's go find out." I said, standing up.

She looked at me as if confused and then realized what I was doing and stood up next to me. I wrapped my arm around her waist and we walked to over to Mrs. Emeralds.

"Excuse me, I was wondering if we could call our families?" I asked. She thought about it for a minute then answered.

"Sure. I can look up their numbers if you need them?" She answered, picking up a phone and I shook my head, no.

"I remember my parents numbers. Thank you." Taking the phone out of her hands.

I dialed my dad's number first. He didn't answer so I hung up and called my mom. After two long rings, a voice answered the phone.

"Hello?" She asked in a confused tone.

"Mom? Is that you?" I asked and started to cry.

"CORY!! Is that you? Dan get over here!!!!" She yelled my fathers name, I could hear the happiness in her voice.

"Ya mom, it's me." I answered with smile.

"Oh my god! We have been looking for you for forever! Where are you? Who is with you?" She asked, eager to know my answers.

"I know mom, the police said it has been seventeen months. I am in Huntington, Oregon. Skai is standing right here next to me, Zac is being questioned by the sheriff, and Lance and Jess are here too." I answered her. There was a long pause.

"Your father and I are leaving tonight to come get you. I will see you soon, honey. I love you and tell Skai I'm glad she is safe too." She answered before hanging up.

"My mom says she is glad your safe." I said before handing her the phone.

She dialed her mothers number and put the phone up to her ear. I wasn't sure what they were talking about, but Skai seemed to be happy. They talked for a few more minutes.

"I will. I love you too. See you soon." Skai talked into the phone. She hung up and hugged me.

"My mom will be here in the morning, and she says thank you." Skai whispered into my ear.

Jess and Lance called there parents. Once Zac came out he called his dad and Lance went in for questioning.
