┊❝ It'll be fun, I promise ❞┊

── "WE need to think of a plan for tonight," Kira spoke up that next day—the day of the party—as (Y/N) walked with her and the rest of the group during their designated break time. "I mean, the party is tonight, so we need to find a way to sneak you out of your house, do your makeup and clothes, and finally just get to the party."

"Huh...?" (Y/N) blinked. "You still think that's a good idea? I mean, I know my father, and..."

...it's likely he'd do something bad if he knew.

"You said this was your first time going to a party right?" Kira hummed, (Y/N) having to give a slight nod of confirmation. "You're an adult. Even if you're living under your dad's roof, you're still allowed to have friends and do stuff with them. You just have to find even ground. When you can't, you have to do what you think is right, and to me, sneaking you out is the right thing to do so you can finally experience a high school party before graduation."

(Y/N) exhaled softly, however smiled.

When she says it like that... I guess it wouldn't hurt to just go and see for myself.

"What if your dad checks on you while you're asleep?" Shariah pointed out with a small frown, not really wanting to get (Y/N) in trouble just for a party. "I don't want you to get in trouble. I also don't want for this blow way out of proportion if he finds you missing and decides to call the cops or something—maybe even try to find you himself."

"He... wouldn't," (Y/N) shook her head. "What time does your party start, Kira, Alina?"

"Nine," both twins answered.

"I'll be at your house by eight... will that be enough time for you to help me get ready?" She asked softly, fidgeting with her fingers as she did so. "I know some things about doing makeup and hair... but not a lot. So... would that be okay?"

"Of course!" Kira's eyes widened, practically sparkling with excitement.

Alina nodded with a smile.

"Me and Shariah will also be there to help set up, so you'll see us, too," Sawyer chimed in with a friendly grin as he slid his hands into his pockets, ignoring Shariah's raised brow thrown his way. "I'm glad you decided to come. It... It'll be fun, I promise."

"Thanks, Sawyer," (Y/N) smiled.

He chuckled lightly as he scratched the back of his neck, the tips of his ears a light pink.

"I guess it's settled, then," Shariah shrugged, however looking just as pleased as everyone else was in that moment. "Tonight's gonna be fun, (Y/N)." Leaning in closer and lowering her voice so that only (Y/N) could hear, she whispered, "And this time, the alcohol will already be provided, so you don't have to run to the store and get them." Leaning away with a teasing grin, she grabbed Alina's hand to begin walking away before saying, "See ya then!"

With a small smile of her own, (Y/N) waved off the group of friends who split up in opposite directions before finally letting her hand fall.

Her expression softened.

This is a nice feeling.

No matter what Dylan or Ian say, I think I can allow myself this... at least for a little while.

Her eyes dimmed.

But...

It's true that it will have to end eventually.

From my first day here, I realized that Dylan's father is the headmaster, and will likely do what his son asks him to do for whatever reason.

So when Dylan threatens them...

He means it.

And he can do it.

Turning around, (Y/N) walked off towards her class with a heavy weight settling around her heart despite the lighthearted mood that she had left with her group of new friends. Sometimes, she couldn't help but wonder what would've happened if, instead of trying to play the goddamn hero, she would've just walked away when seeing Dylan and Ian abusing a boy in that classroom so long ago.

Her eyes crested.

Yeah...

I wonder.

Sitting through her classes, chatting with Sawyer or making plans with Kira, (Y/N) found it strange that not once did she sight Dylan or Ian or their little group that included Carmen. Not only that, but not a peep came from her messages, either, despite how they blew it up yesterday. It left her feeling unsettled—more so, she felt on edge, as if they were planning something that wouldn't know of until it was too late. During art, Sawyer, seeming to notice her strange behavior, tried to cheer her up.

"So," he began with a smirk. "What do you expect from this party tonight?"

"Huh?" (Y/N) was snapped from her thoughts.

"I mean, you've probably seen movies that like to over exaggerate high school parties, and since you've never been to one, I'm curious to see what your thoughts on them are," Sawyer continued, looking at her from the corner of his eye even as his paint brush glided across his canvas. "My first party was a little underwhelming, to be honest. But, I don't think Alina's and Kira's will be like that for you. They—or should I say Kira—like to go all out."

"Really?" She blinked. "I thought you mentioned their parents were more formal...?"

"Oh, yeah, they are, but that doesn't mean they don't allow their daughters to throw a cool party," he chuckled with a small tilt of his head. "But, anyways. Your thoughts?"

"Um... I guess... I expect there to be a lot of red solo cups?" She tried with an awkward grin. "Maybe a lot of ping pong, too?"

"Yeah?" Sawyer laughed at that.

"What? Those were all in those 'movies' that you said I watch..." (Y/N) pointed out.

"Fair enough," his smile softened, his brush strokes easing up as he seemed to look more in thought, (Y/N) glancing up at him every so often from her own painting that she was trying to finish. "I think that pretty accurate." His eyes lidded the longer the silence drug out before he murmured, "I hope you'll have fun tonight, (Y/N). I know you'll look really pretty in that dress."

Swallowing thickly, her heart rate seeming to skip at his words, (Y/N)'s eyes stayed glued to her own painting with trepidation.

Does he... mean that?

Unfortunately, all sweet moments had to end.
