The room was dimly lit, with the soft hum of medical equipment filling the silence. Jyn lay still in the bed, his body connected to various monitors and IV drips. The explosion had left him severely injured and has been several days he is unconscious. The doctors and nurses had done their best to stabilize him, but his condition had been touch-and-go at best.
Erika had been a constant presence by his side, rarely leaving the hospital, only stepping away for brief moments when absolutely necessary. Her heart ached seeing Jyn in such a state, and the worry etched on her face never seemed to fade. She had stayed awake countless nights, her eyes red from lack of sleep, holding onto the hope that he would awaken soon.
Today, however, was different. As the first rays of morning light filtered through the window, Jyn's fingers twitched slightly. The subtle movement was enough to catch Erika's attention. She had been sitting in a chair next to his bed, her head resting on her hands, dozing off in the quiet room. Her eyes fluttered open as she noticed the small but significant sign of life.
She sat up, her heart pounding in her chest as she leaned closer to Jyn. "Jyn?" she whispered, her voice trembling with hope. "Can you hear me?"
Jyn's eyelids fluttered then slowly opened. The room was hazy at first, but as his vision cleared, he saw Erika's face a mix of relief and fatigue. Her eyes were bright with unshed tears, and a small, hopeful smile graced her lips.
"J...Jyn," Erika's voice cracked with emotion. "You're awake."
Jyn tried to move, but his body felt heavy and unresponsive. He blinked slowly, trying to piece together his surroundings. "Erika?" His voice was hoarse, just slightly above a whisper.
"Yes, it's me," Erika said, her voice breaking. "You've been out for a few days. I've been so worried."
Jyn attempted a weak smile, but it was clear he was still struggling with strength. "I'm sorry... for causing you so much trouble."
Erika shook her head, her tears flowing freely now. "No, don't say that. It's not your fault. I'm just glad you're awake. We were all so scared."
Jyn's gaze softened as he looked at Erika, taking in the exhaustion that marked her features. "You've been here the whole time, haven't you?"
Erika nodded, her voice catching in her throat. "I couldn't leave you. I needed to be here for you. I was afraid."
Jyn tried to reach out to her, but his limbs felt weak. Erika took his hand gently, squeezing it with a tenderness that spoke volumes. "I'm here, Jyn. You're going to be okay."
Jyn's eyes filled with gratitude and a hint of sorrow. "I don't know what I'd do without you. Thank you for being here."
Erika's heart swelled at his words, and she leaned closer, her forehead resting against his. "You don't have to worry about that. I'm not going anywhere. We'll get through this together."
As the minutes passed, the doctor and nurses entered the room to check on Jyn's condition. They began their routine checks, adjusting his IV drips and ensuring everything was stable. Erika stood to the side, allowing them to do their work but keeping a close eye on Jyn.
Once the medical team finished their examination and left the room, Erika returned to Jyn's side. The atmosphere was quieter now, filled with the soft beeping of the heart monitor.
"Do you remember what happened?" Erika asked gently, her voice barely above a whisper.
Jyn nodded slowly. "The Panther... it exploded. I remember the pain, but not much else."
