Chapter 7: A Kingdom in Peril

Following the revelation in the garden, the palace was thrown into chaos. Reports of strange occurrences and worsening conditions flooded in from across the kingdom. Crops failed at an alarming rate, livestock died mysteriously, and a pall of unease settled over Eldoria.

Courtney gathered her most trusted advisors in a war council. The commander reported, "The people are frightened, Your Majesty. There are rumors spreading about a curse and dark magic."

The butler added, "Many believe Lady Eleanor is behind these events. The staff have witnessed her practicing dark rituals."

Courtney, her face set in a mask of determination, addressed her council. "Eleanor is no longer hiding her true nature. We must prepare for the worst. The safety of Eldoria is our priority."

Richmond, who had become increasingly withdrawn and apathetic, sat silently through the meeting. His cold demeanor had only worsened, and it was clear that Eleanor's influence had taken a deep toll on him. When Courtney tried to speak to him privately, he brushed her off, his eyes dull and unresponsive.

"Richmond," Courtney's voice was edged with frustration, "you must see the danger Eleanor poses. She is not who she claimed to be."

Richmond's response was distant, almost robotic. "Eleanor has done nothing but help. You are overreacting, Courtney."

The emotional chasm between them widened, leaving Courtney to face the crisis alone. She knew she could not rely on Richmond for support and resolved to act independently, focusing on gathering evidence and strengthening the kingdom's defenses.
