*MENTIONS OF GANG VIOLENCE, MURDER, ATTEMPTED MURDER*

***************

It was a rainy day at the Tremont hotel. 17 year old Griffin Campbell stood at the counter of the opening desk. He checked guests in, never once getting a break. The line was practically out the front door and he was already almost booked solid.

It was a Thursday, their marked busiest day of the week for check ins. They were booked solid and had a long wait list.

Griffin sighed as he looked at the long list, but quickly forced a smile onto his face as the next customer stepped up to the counter.

"Hey, welcome to the Tremont! How can I help you this morning?" Griffin asked politely.

"I have a reservation for the Farmer family." The older, sweet man said. Griffin nodded, typed the name into the system and stepped up to the rack of keys hanging on the wall. Griffin handed him his key and jumped slightly as he felt hands squeeze his tense shoulders.

He turned around to face his pretty girlfriend, Harper Dunn. The startled look on his face quickly turned to a real smile, as he set his hands on her hips. He knew it was only a matter of time before the next customer gathered her luggage and stepped up to the counter.

"How's the restaurant faring today?" Griffin asked.

"Pretty good. Been busy. Finally getting a break." Harper chuckled.

"Must be nice." Griffin joked gesturing to the long line of people in front of him. The woman finally dragged her bags up. Griffin shot her a smile and held up a finger to show her he'd be there in just a second.

"Have fun." Harper smiled, rubbing his shoulder and retreating. Griffin scoffed with a light chuckle before getting back to his job.

"Aw, young love. How long have you been together?" The woman fussed with a smile.

"3 years." Griffin blushed.

"How sweet. Well good luck, young man." She stated, gathering her bags after Griffin had given her her key.

He looked down at his sheet and marked something down in pen as someone rang the bell of the desk.

"One second." Griffin stated pleasantly.

"Take all the time you need, Campbell." A sneering voice was heard. Griffin's heart stopped momentarily. He knew that voice. He knew it all too well. That was the voice of Jaxon, or Jax Stevens. An old "friend" from Chicago.

"Jax." Griffin gulped.

"The one and only." The boy replied, leaning on the counter, glaring at Griffin.

"Do you have a reservation?" Griffin asked nervously.

"Cut the crap, Griffin. You know why I'm here." He sneered.

"I have no idea." Griffin lied. He knew exactly why, and he was horrified.

"Lies." Jax seethed. "You're a rat and a liar. You dirty, no good-"

"Hey, is this line moving?" Some man called out.

"You're lucky, you son of a bitch. I'll be waiting." Jax scoffed, walking into the parlor. Griffin gulped back the lump in his throat as the line continued.

It was just a short 20 minutes later, that the line finally died down. It felt like hours to Griffin though, Jax's watchful gaze never once leaving the boy.
