~Alice's pov~
Weeks bled into months, and with each passing day, a quiet confidence settled within me. The whispers of doubt had faded, replaced by a steely determination. I was ready. Ready to face the storm of accusations that had been brewing for so long. I was prepared to fight.
The news of my return sent shockwaves through the city. Faces, once etched with sorrow and acceptance of my supposed demise, now mirrored disbelief and astonishment. It had been a year and a half since the rumors of my death had spread, leaving a void in the hearts of those who knew me.
Risa, my closest confidante, was among those left reeling. The news hit her like a tidal wave, leaving her struggling to process the conflicting emotions that surged within her. Was she angry at the deception, or relieved that I was alive? The weight of the news pressed down on her, leaving her with a knot of uncertainty in her stomach.
The Senate committee hearing was a whirlwind of accusations and denials. Each piece of evidence presented against me crumbled under my scrutiny, revealing its flaws and inconsistencies. Yet, with each victory, a new wave of accusations would crash down, as if the universe itself was determined to banish me from this world.
But I refused to be silenced. I fought back, my voice rising above the din of doubt and suspicion. The weight of the accusations pressed down on me, but I refused to break. And in the midst of the storm, a glimmer of hope emerged. A small but dedicated group of supporters stood by my side, their unwavering belief in my innocence a beacon of light in the darkness. Their presence, their words of encouragement, gave me the strength to keep fighting, to keep pushing forward, even when the world seemed to be closing in on me.
Five years had passed,(I'm sorry if ang laki ng talon ng year, need po kasi nating habulin 'ung age ni Therece (which is 'ung baby ni Alice) ) and Alice found herself once again facing the Senate, this time with renewed accusations swirling around her. Risa, relentless in her pursuit of uncovering Alice's past, had hired a private investigator to delve into her life, unearthing more evidence to present against her. As Alice made her way to the Senate hearing, a chance encounter with a little girl changed everything.
"Sorry," they both mumbled simultaneously, startled by the collision.
"Sorry, baby girl, are you okay?" Alice asked, her face etched with concern. She couldn't help but be mesmerized by the little girl, who bore an uncanny resemblance to her own childhood self.
"Yes, I'm fine, po. How about you, po? Sorry po talaga," the little girl replied, her voice soft and polite.
"Don't worry about me, baby girl. I'm fine," Alice reassured her, her heart tugging at the sight of the child.
"I'm sorry po, it's my fault po. I was running po kasi," the little girl explained, her eyes downcast.
"No worries, no need to apologize, bebe," Alice said, trying to lighten the mood. "What's your name, btw?"
"My name is Krishcianna Therece H. Baraquel po," the little girl answered, using the initial "H" for Hontiveros, her grandmother's surname.
"Wow, so pretty naman. But why is it so long? Don't you find it hard to say?" Alice asked, curious about the unusual name.
"Hindi naman po. But Mamita said to me na she named me after her daughter po. The Krishcianna po is supposed to be her daughter's name, but she said that bad people took it away from her..." Cia trailed off, her voice fading as she realized what she had said. She quickly covered her mouth with her tiny hand.
