Avery's POV:
"will you do my makeup avery? you do it so much better than i ever could." jade asks me nicely as we're finishing our hair in the bathroom.
"only if you help pin my hair in the back." i tell her, handing her a bobby-pin and she just gives me a cute smile and takes it from me.
once my hair is done, i decide to go ahead and do jade's makeup first because her and liam have scheduled pictures to take. i don't. so i have extra time.
"so, how do you feel getting to go to this formal with my brother as your date?" i ask jade as i am blending in her foundation. just starting small talk.
"i'm excited. i still can't believe i'm his girlfriend." she tells me cheekily. i can spot the stars in her eyes as she talks about him. at least one of us got a happy ending.
"it's about time is all i can say." i tell her, now moving on to liquid contour and blush.
"what about you and paige? you don't talk about her anymore." i take a big gulp at her question. "y'all are going together right?", my heart sinks at the thought of revisiting that night she turned me down for the dance. i haven't talked about it to anyone because it's embarrassing.
"uh no, we're not going together. we thought it would be better if we went separate." i kept my answer simple as possible.
"ave.." jade lets out.
"no don't do that. it's okay, really. it was a mutual decision." i hate lying. i don't lie. especially not to jade but i'm not ready for the harsh truth from anyone else.
she just nods in understanding, but i see the slight sadness in her eyes for me. i think she knows i'm lying but that's another reason why i love her. she can see right through me but she never presses me to share things i don't want to share. she respects my boundaries.
as the minutes pass, i finally finish jade's makeup and she looks absolutely stunning.
"now go put on that beautiful dress." i tell her excitedly.
i start my own makeup while jade slips into my room to finish getting ready. and i'm in the process of applying my blush when she finally comes out of my room and i'm left stunned at how beautiful my best friend looks.
i let out a happy squeal. "oh my god jade.. you look stunning." i tell her.
she twirls around in the dress and i can see confidence radiate through her. she's glowing.
