I can't believe Moon Goddess played me like this. Like the first ever person who made me feel nice—even for some other purpose—the only girl I liked, turns out to be my freaking mate!
Damn. She's even more beautiful now. And she's grown way taller, I can see muscles on her arms and the way her shoulder length light brown hair framed her strong jawline, my heart just won't stop jumping.
But her words aren't as pretty as her appearance. They hurt.
I understand at some point that why she wouldn't want me as a mate.
I am a commoner, and she's a freaking Beta! She's gonna rule the Silver Forest pack, along with the Alpha of course.
I have always wished for a mate who belongs to any rank, I was okay even if they were an Omega, but the Goddess gave me a Beta! I'm just so glad.
It's okay if she's not ready for more, I'm satisfied if she just lets me stay close to her, even as a friend.
"You okay, dude?" Ethan snaps his fingers in front of my grinning face and I turn red from embarrassment.
"Yeah."
"Fantasizing about your Beta?" Gabriel teases and high-fives with Ethan, making me groan and laugh.
"Shut up you two! I told you she doesn't want me like that." I say sadly, looking down at my tray of food as we are sitting in our cafeteria.
"Not yet." Gabriel emphasizes, pushing his blonde hair away from his face and fixing his glasses.
I sigh and stab the fries on my plate with a fork, not having any appetite since yesterday.
Her intoxicating scent still imprinted in my mind and heart. It is of woods and dark chocolate, it smells pungent at first but then it'll surround your soul, making you fall in love with the owner.
I wanna smell her again.
"Stop sighing, Zeph. It's annoying." Ethan grumbles, poking his tongue out at me, and I roll my eyes.
"I j-just don't know how to handle it all, guys. It's not easy for us to be apart from our mates for so long after finding them. It'll eventually start physically hurting us. Especially me, since I'm weaker than her. I don't even have a wolf!"
Ethan and Gabriel share worried and sad glances, softly rubbing my shoulder to comfort me.
I wish I had my wolf so I could at least talk to someone about all this. Someone who understands. I heard from others that their wolves are their best friends, and it always made me envy of them.
Will I ever get my wolf? Or I'm just a human being?
It can't be, because whenever I'm too overwhelmed by any emotion, my eyes glow orange. I do have a wolf, but for some reason, he won't come out, or even talk to me.
"We could help you, y'know." Gabriel says and shares a look with Ethan.
I frown. "How?"
"How about we make her jealous and then she'll be bound to confess that she also feels for you." Ethan adds.
Their plan doesn't seem too bad but I don't want to force her into anything when she clearly said she doesn't believe in mates.
"I don't wanna force her."
"Who's forcing who? You'll just be enjoying your life since she said she won't give you the rights of a mate." Ethan deadpans, as if it's the most obvious thing in the world.
He's got a point though.
"Okay. What do you suggest?" I ask, genuinely curious now, because I'd definitely want my mate's attention on me after all.
