Courtney walked into class the next morning with dark bags under her eyes.
She was unable to sleep at all after encountering her unwelcome visitor, and had spent the night staring out the window; nervous that she'd be caught by surprise again if she put her guard down.
She stared at the tile she walked over as she crossed the room, feeling the eyes of the classmates that knew what had happened to her last night when she passed them. Their stares made her clench her teeth, and she breathed out smoke when she released a heavy sigh upon sitting down.
"I thought you said you wouldn't have another nightmare?" Bakugou noticed her disgruntlement immediately, keeping his voice low so only she could hear him. She gave him a sideways glance before resting her head on her arms. "You look like shit."
"I didn't, smart guy," she replied densely, sounding muffled. "I just didn't end up sleeping."
Bakugou glared gently at that, and chose to leave her be as Archangel and Aizawa walked into the room. He noticed Archangel's stare darting over to Courtney immediately before turning to the rest of the classroom, and quirked a brow in curiosity at the gesture. He knew something was off.
"Good morning, students." Archangel forced a smile as she pressed her fingers together in front of her. "Today's lessons will be taking a shift today, and instead of fighting against your partners, we will be traveling to the City Scape to partake in trial patrols."
"What's the City Scape?" Kaminari asked from the other side of the classroom.
"Hm, just think of it as HANY's version of U.A.'s USJ," Archangel smiled as she paced the head of the room. "The City Scape will give you all an idea on what to expect when real patrols begin in a few weeks. The scenarios are powered by holographic AI, so it's quite realistic and makes for great training!"
"Will we be wearing our Hero Suits?" Kirishima sounded excited at the idea and pounded his hardened fists against each other. "Like we do at USJ?"
"Yes, you all have the option of wearing your suits." Aizawa confirmed from his place leaning against the wall beside the board, and an eruption of excitement filtered around the room.
Courtney groaned quietly at the noise, and wrapped her arms around the top of her head to stifle it. Bakugou looked down at her, and threw a glance toward Dani, who also appeared to have been watching Courtney through the lesson introduction. They caught each other's gaze instantly, and a knowing look crossed Dani's face.
"Long story..." she whispered, seeming troubled by the whole thing.
Bakugou's brow twitched at her words, and he looked down as he pondered on what could be wrong. She was fine when he spoke to her the night before, and chewed on the inside of his cheek as he impatiently waited for class to be over.
His eyes remained trained on the clock beside the door, and felt as though time stretched on forever as his mind raced. He had to physically shake his head to snap himself out of it when he realized that he was worrying, and it made him cringe. He turned to scowl subconsciously at Courtney, who had fallen into a light sleep beside him. His stare lingered on the half of her face that was showing, and saw the curve of her brow and the sweat forming on her forehead. He quickly moved to shake her gently, knowing the signs of her overheating by now, and was glad he did so when he felt her warmth.
Courtney jumped weakly and opened her eyes, and when she looked at him, she relaxed.
"Thanks..." she muttered, sensing her Quirk surge as she fanned herself. She still looked exhausted.
Bakugou remained silent, and after a few more minutes of waiting, the bell signifying free hour finally rang overhead. He was quick to gather his things and drag Courtney into the hallway by the elbow, and he ignored her complaints as she dragged her feet behind him.
