) Nolan's Metahuman Gene first activated when he saved someone who was drowning at the beach and this allowed him to get the person to safety before soon realizing he can breath underwater. Nolan himself isn't sure on where these powers originated from, but it may have something to do with the Aquaman who was part of the All-Star Squadron back in World War 2.

) An exposure to the Pym Particles affected and in a way, enhance the already activated metahuman gene within Nolan, allowing him to alter his own size naturally without any extra tech on his suit.

) Nolan's natural size manipulation also granted him a form of regeneration and adaptation, allow him to maintain specific sizes for longer periods, withstand pressures beneath the ocean and not suffer the drawbacks from those who change to larger sizes through the Pym Particles.

) Nolan also possessed a unique bio-aura that grants him the ability to change the size of objects and other people through enough concentration along with what other clothes he's currently wearing, so he doesn't run the risk of tearing them apart.

) Nolan was recruited into Avengers Academy once the knowledge of his unique set of powers came under SHIELD's radar and would also be trained by the likes of Hank Pym and Bill Foster to get the full hang of his size altering powers along with using his large size as a advantage in various situations while Aquaman taught him how to swim effectively and use the ocean as his battlefield.

) As Aqua-Mite, Nolan wears a modified version of the Ant-Man Helmet that allows him to communicate with Aquatic Life similar to Aquaman's Marine Telepathy and allow him to call for reinforcements in battle.
