Lockwood was on the brink of sleep, his mind buzzing with memories of the day's escapades, when a muffled cry pierced the stillness of the house. It was 2 AM, and the faint sounds emanating from Valentina's room stirred him from his slumber. Tossing aside his covers, Lockwood rushed down the dimly lit corridor.

Knocking gently, he opened the door to find her nestled in her sheets, tears glistening on her cheeks, her brow furrowed in fear. "Valentina?" he called softly, stepping into the sanctuary of her room. She stirred but didn't wake. Without thinking, he crossed the distance between them, sitting on the edge of her bed. "Hey, it's just a dream. You're safe," he murmured, smoothing her hair back from her face.

Valentina woke, her eyes wide but searching, as she felt the heaviness of his fingertips on her skin, the calming weight of his voice gently pulling her from the abyss. she shuffled closer to him. They settled into her bed, and as they fell asleep together.

The next night, Lockwood stumbled upon Valentina again, this time in the library, surrounded by books yet again—a sanctuary she often retreated to when the world was overwhelming. "I can't sleep," she admitted, frustration evident in her voice.

"You can't stay here all night, Valentina," he said gently, his voice breaking through her thoughts. "Come up to my room. You'll feel better."

Valentina began sleeping in Lockwood's room, a decision that came to feel natural, a balm for her restless spirit. Yet, in moments when the air thickened with unspoken words or tension sparked between them, she would retreat, angry and defiant, seeking refuge in her own space.
