back at home, sunmi walks in to find her manager already settled on the sofa, watching television with her hair wrapped in a towel.
"where did you go?" yoona asks between bites of chips she'd picked up on her way over.
"the mart. i was starving."
"and you had ramen?" yoona raises an eyebrow, clearly questioning sunmi and reminding her of her diet.
"just a bowl," sunmi replies.
"still! that's two strikes. one more and you're on ramen probation for a month."
"pfft, okay fine," sunmi huffs as she sits down next to yoona. "what's up?" she asks, noticing the tension in yoona's posture.
yoona glances at her, trying to play it cool. "nothing's wrong," she says, but sunmi can easily tell that something's off.
"did you have a fight with your boyfriend?" sunmi asks suddenly, catching yoona off guard and making her choke on her chips.
"what? no!" yoona exclaims, flustered and suddenly not making any eye contact
BINGO! sunmi knows it when yoona's lying, an eye contact is all it takes.
"ah, so you do have a boyfriend," sunmi smirks, having figured out yoona's secret.
sunmi has worked closely with yoona since day one, so she knows her well. but seeing yoona out of her manager role is unusual, sunmi rarely sees her doing anything personal, especially when it comes to relationship matters.
yoona looks a bit embarrassed, her gaze dropping. "yeah, it was something I kept private. but... we broke up," she admits, her voice trembling slightly.
"what? i'm so sorry," sunmi says, genuinely shocked. she hadn't even known yoona was in a relationship, let alone that it had ended.
the room's atmosphere shifts from light-hearted to heavy.
"it's a long story," yoona begins, wiping away a tear. "we just had different goals and couldn't find common ground anymore. it was tough, but it was probably for the best."
sunmi nods, her heart aching for yoona. "i'm really sorry, unnie. breakups are never easy. if you need to talk or just hang out, i'm here for you."
yoona offers a small, grateful smile. "thanks, sunmi. i appreciate it. i just need a bit of time to sort things out."
at the same time, she feels a pang of her own conflicted emotions. she had been meaning to ask for advice on the feelings she's been having lately—feelings that are crystal clear but also a bit confusing. she wondered if she should act on them and, if so, for how long. but seeing yoona's distress, sunmi realises that her friend needs her more right now.
"how about we make tonight a movie night?" sunmi suggests, trying to shift the focus. "we can order some food, soju and i'll even bring some ramen if you want."
yoona chuckles softly, her spirits lifting a little. "that sounds perfect. i could do with a distraction...but that doesnt mean that its an open invitation for you to eat ramen" the last bit made sunmi laugh
"aih unnie...just a bite hehe?"sunmi asks playfully hoping to lift up the mood.
sunmi grabs the remote and starts flipping through channels. "let's find something good to watch. and remember, if you need to vent, i'm all ears."
as they settle in for a cosy evening, sunmi pushes her own thoughts aside, and focus on supporting yoona, making the weight of her own confusion seems to fade into the background, if only for tonight.
