«For the tenacious, no road is impassable»
_____________
7th day of the first moon of 120 AC
To Lady Elaenora Arryn
It has only been a couple of hours since you left and I find myself already missing you. Writing to you, knowing I'll have to wait days for a reply instead of simply going straight to you and hearing your voice, feels incredibly disheartening. While my scar has momentarily stopped hurting, it is now my chest that aches due to your absence. Loneliness has fallen upon my shoulders with the weight of a hundred rocks and silence has become my most faithful yet loathed companion.
I cannot wait to visit you on your island or see you step foot in King's Landing again. As my only friend, you occupied most of my daytime making it light and bearable, now, it feels like the hours have turned into days and every minute seems endless. Helaena told me we are leaving for the Red Keep tonight and, during this crushing spare time, I can do nothing but work on my bond with Vhagar. She is the consolement I needed and t'is thanks to her I have not avowedly crumbled at your departure.
While I have finally understood and relished in the bond my kin has shared for centuries with those magical beasts, you still seem to be my mind's priority. I can only hope this time away becomes as ephemeral as a shooting star, but for now, all I am left to do is wish you the best. Tell me, how is everything on your mother's island? Does she have a big library for you? Does she have wide fields where Grey Ghost can freely soar? Is everyone treating you with the respect and affection you deserve?
Missing you terribly,
Your friend, Aemond.
Selis could not help but grimace in disdain at the words in the letter. That boy was certainly going to be a problem if he held such affection for her daughter and had become such an important person for her. Nora was never meant to engage in any sort of bond with any Targaryen man — even less hide it from her mother — which left Selis with no other option in her eyes but to punish her daughter for her disobedience.
She could not allow this boy to have any sort of influence over Elaenora, let alone encourage her nostalgia for King's Landing when her actual place was in Edrya as lady and ruler. Boys were little more than a distraction, and when they bore the Targaryen name, they became nought but an omen of tragedy. The furthest this child was from Nora, the better woman she would grow to be.
Without hesitation, Selis threw the letter to the fireplace, watching the flames consume the parchment until Aemond's words were nothing but an echo in the ashes. She then moved on to the note sent by Princess Helaena, and while she was not particularly fond of such a deep bond between the young girls, Selis kept this letter in the pocket of her dress to later leave it at Nora's chambers.
