_____________

20th day of the seventh moon of the year 123 AC

To Lady Elaenora Arryn

I hope this letter finds you well. While I have been trying to communicate with you in the past years to no success, I have decided to make this my last attempt. If you do not reply to this message, I will then understand you do not wish to have any connection with me any longer. However, as I still hold you in high regard due to our previous friendship, I considered it appropriate to send you this sapphire as a symbol of my apology if I ever wronged you in any way that led you to cut ties with me.

Hoping for a response,

Prince Aemond Targaryen.

"What are you talking about, Elaenora?" Selis' brow furrowed in confusion at the sudden anger radiating from her daughter. "And be mindful of your words, because I do not appreciate the tone you are using right now with your own mother."

Nora could feel her blood boiling in her veins, rushing through her body like the sharpest of knives. Disappointment and betrayal burnt deep within her as she did her best to keep the anger biting at her guts under control.

"Do not pretend you don't know! I am talking about Helaena's wedding! How could you hide it from me?! You are well aware of the love I hold for her and yet your stupid and misplaced resentment for all Targaryens is all that matters to you!" Nora snapped, without much regard towards the hardness in her voice. "T'is been three years since I last saw her, Mother! Three years! This was the perfect opportunity!"

"Elaenora, while I understand your affection towards the Princess, you must realise you have duties. Your obligation is with Edrya, not with the Crown," Selis maintained a stern tone. However, her eyes betrayed a certain hint of worry at seeing Elaenora's temper arise in such a manner. "I did only what was best for you."

"Fuck, Edrya! Fuck all of it! You had no right to interfere and hide information from me! How am I supposed to trust you as my mentor, as my mother, when I do not know the sort of things you've been hiding from me!" Nora's voice raised, sounding throatier and maturer.

"Precisely because I am your mother I do have such right!" Selis intervened, slamming her hands on the desk as she stood up. "You are just a girl who knows nothing of the world! You don't understand how dangerous your connections to the Targaryen family could be for you! Look how it ended up for your sister!"

Selis felt a huge knot of anger and throbbing pain knitting at her throat. She needed Elaenora to understand that she had never meant any harm to her, that everything she did was to protect her and guarantee her the life Selis could not provide for her firstborn. All she wanted was for someone to comprehend her fear of burying another daughter after leaving her to be abused by the same family that snatched her first baby away, but it seemed no one was able to understand her deep sense of desolation at the idea of witnessing history repeating itself.
