This campus is huge. Am I lost already? I wonder while looking around for the administration office. I had my sony headphones on, nothing playing. They were on for safety or at least the illusion of such, as my anxiety blew out the roof upon viewing the bustling campus of new faces. "Finally!" I quietly rejoiced releasing a breath of relief stepping into the office.
"Hello, good morning! I am to be collecting my class schedule here?" "Ah yes good morning! may i have your name?" "Sienna-rae." I said as the receptionist began typing away at her keyboard. "Here you go! you may also check the email you provided for the school for your digital copy." "Thank you so much!" I say accepting the paper before hurriedly stepping back out to find my first class. Having about 20 minutes to spare I start to panic internally, time anxiety kicking in as it suddenly felt as if the time was running away.
Silence. Silence immediately over took the class room of 1, 2, 6, 12 students. All 12 seemingly in one big conversation. My nerves spiked as they all stared at me, some sharing whispers and pointing. I feel judged, help! My brain spun all sorta thoughts before a boy spoke up. "You new here pretty girl?" he asks while the rest of the class anticipated an answer. "Yes I am, is this Mr. Wembleys' biology class?" "Yes it is, welcome new girl!" A young girl answered from the center of the room. I waved shyly as i went and sat close to the front of the class.
5 minutes after settling in my new seat the professor entered the classroom. He was brown skin, wearing a pretty comfortable looking pant suit big purple patterned glasses and an extremely bubbly personality. "Good morning my little biologists!" he cheered receiving a mix of enthusiastic and lack luster replies.
"Oh please, you all should be excited you made it to this semester. Last exams almost took you all out." He said with a low chuckle before turning to me with a kind smile. "Oh children we have a new addition to our biology family. She is a transfer from The University of The West Indies, in Jamaica. Could you introduce yourself ma'am?" he asked after a general introduction. "Ah yes! Hey everyone. I'm Sienna-rae Kane, umm I'm 18 years old. Ahh yea nice to meet you all!" I finished with a little wave making everyone slightly laugh at my anxiousness.
"Alright let's ensure to make miss kane feel at home in the new school, and she is a great student so we should all be excited to be in class with another smart scholar. No seriously, Kane your research stats are impressive. Very interested to see how you will perform and aid USC biology." He complimented before I uttered a thank you.
Almost 2 hours have passed and I'm loving it already. I am a huge science nerd I fear, the teacher was great at his job and seemed totally content and happy with his position. The class felt like a family for real, everyone was easy to talk to and the class was interactive and comfortable.
Only 5 minutes left so we began packing up, per Mr. Wembleys' permission. I got up ready to leave and find the library. "Hey Kane!" the boy from earlier called out "Oh hi umm?"Chadney, Chadney Kade." I chuckle while we shake hands, what a coincidence with our last names huh? " I'll call you kade then haha!" "Yea no problem Kane, where are you headed? I could umm accompany you, if you'd like? I have a free period." "Oh me too! I plan to spend it in the library, if i can find it that is." "No worries I'll show you the way."
We walk out into the hallway, walking out towards where the library is supposed to be. Making eye contact and smiling slightly at a couple people, some staring and others offering kind smiles. "Am I tripping or are people staring at me?" I said lowly mumbled not really intended for anyone to hear. "Well yea they are, you're new and you are hella pretty. Like model pretty." Kade replied with an amused look on his face. "Haha you are being extra! I'm not that alluring. I know I'm pretty but damn this is a lot of staring. Makes me anxious."
He laughs shaking his head at my words. "we're here." He says as we walk through the doors of the library then quickly finding a quiet table spot to sit. Getting lost in conversation and doing our own thing until we had about 10 minutes left before the next class. So we part ways and I head towards the classroom that was thankfully close to the library.
"Well, hello you must be my new student! Kane?" I was greeted with a question by the teacher I assume. "Uh yes Sienna-rae!" I replied while checking the time assuming I'm late. "Ohh great! You're not late don't worry, but you may introduce yourself to the class!" "Okay, hi everyone! I am Sienna-rae Kane. I'm a transfer student from Jamaica. Nice to meet you all!" I spoke nervously looking around the room at all the expectant and curious eyes.
I recognize one. Her eyes slightly widened with what I assume to be surprise and her eyebrows lifting as a look of recognition settled on her face causing a small smile to be sent my way. I send a small one back as I begin to walk to a seat at the corner of the room (I love corners.) Which happened to be just in front of her.
"Hey Sie!" "Hi Juju!" I responded shifting in my seat to look at her. "I didn't know you'd be coming here. Thought you were visiting El?" She asked laughing slightly. "Nah I'll be living with her tho while i study here." "Oh thats cool!" she replied before Miss Teralk spoke up.

The class was over and I was ready to go. Packing up and heading to the teacher's table as i decided to sign up for a tutoring program for this department of studies. "You know miss Kane, you're grades in this social studies from your past schools were absolutely perfect. So i already have you on the list for paid tutors. That is if you want to do it?" she said before i even said anything to her.
"Yes ma'am I would love to be a tutor, do i get to pick how many students i tutor or will they just be assigned?" "Great! I have assigned 2 students and before you freak out they are not struggling students, they could just improve a bit on their essay writing and such." She said quickly hoping I wouldn't turn down the request. "Oh I think I'll be able to manage."
"Alright great thank you. I will email you with the rest of the information." She said said before sharing goodbyes and leaving the classroom.
Deciding to stop at a nearby cafe to get coffee and sandwiches for Elo and I. She is hanging around for basketball practice, so i chose to accompany her as a way of socializing and maybe meeting new people. And partially because she is my ride home.
