Since we're already on the bed, we decide to cuddle. I rest my head on her chest.
"We're going to have to tell everyone," she says.
"Didn't they already figure it out?"
"I'm sure that's what they think. They just don't know that we made it official."
"When do you want to do it? They'll hate us forever if we wait until Monday."
"We can do it tomorrow. I'd say today but I want to spend the day with you."
"That's fine with me."
"Well, that's good because my mom isn't picking me up until six."
"Did she know about us?"
"I told her about last night. She obviously doesn't know about this. She's the one who encouraged me to talk to you. I would've done it anyway but it felt good to have her support."
"My mom did the same thing."
"Then she won't be upset when you tell her."
"Can I do that tomorrow too? I kind of want to just stay here."
"As much as I would love that, I came over so we could do something together."
"We are doing something."
"I meant like for us to go somewhere."
"Like on a date?"
"Not yet. Then we'd be keeping two secrets from the others. One is bad enough."
"Alright. We'll just hang out then."
"Cool. You're going to have to get up."
I sigh in defeat.
"Fine."
I sit up and let her stand up. I follow her out of the room. My mom and Jaiden are watching TV in the living room nonchalantly. I wonder if they know what we were talking about in my room. I clear my throat.
"I want to tell you something," I begin.
"Sure. Pause it for a second," she tells Jaiden.
He presses pause on the remote and looks at us.
"Are you okay, Amy?" He asks.
"I'm fine. I just wanted to tell you that Keri and I decided to give it a shot."
Keri smiles silently.
"Oh. That."
"Jaiden," Mom scolds.
"I'm sorry. I already knew that's what you were going to say."
"How?" I ask.
"Keri told us that she really needed to talk to you. I figured that it had to be about something like this. It's cool if you're dating."
"I thought you'd be more surprised but thank you."
"I'm okay with it too. After you told me about what happened, I thought that might happen when she came over," Mom says.
"It still means a lot that you support it."
"Yeah though Amelia told me that you would," Keri says.
"I do. You've always been good to her. I knew that it wouldn't be any different here."
"It won't be."
My mom smiles.
"That being said, we want to spend the day together. We were wondering if you could take us," I add.
"Of course."
We decide to hang out at the mall. That way, it won't seem like an actual date and we already have a place to eat. We don't do any shopping; we just look around. Her phone rings while we're walking. I let go of her hand so she can get it from her purse.
"It's Adam," she says.
"That didn't last very long."
"I'm not going to tell him. I'm just going to say that we're hanging out."
"Wow. You're going to lie for once?"
"It's not a lie. We are hanging out."
I giggle. She answers the phone. It turns out that he's trying to FaceTime.
"Hey."
"Hey girl. Are you at the mall?"
"Yeah. I'm here with Amelia."
"Hey Adam," I say.
"Oh hey. Are you having a shopping spree?"
"No. We're just hanging out. We popped into a few stores but we didn't buy anything."
"Gotcha. Well, I called because Alec wants to hang out. I can't tell if it's a date or not so I don't know what to wear."
"How did he say it?" Keri asks.
"We both mentioned that we were planning on seeing that new drama that just came out. He said that we should watch it together. He didn't ask me out like directly."
"Oh, that is tough," I say.
"Do you have anything that's somewhere in between casual and fancy?" Keri asks.
"I think the word you're looking for is semi formal," I tease.
"Yes. Semi formal," she agrees.
"I'm sure I do. I just don't usually have a reason to wear it. I'll show you my closet as of right now," Adam says.
"Okay."
We sit down on a nearby bench and watch as he walks into his closet. He places the phone on a shelf and stands in front of a full rack of clothes.
"These are all my 'nice' shirts," he says.
He takes the shirts off the rack and shows them off one by one. Keri and I agree on a blue short sleeve button up.
"That would look good with some black pants," I suggest.
"Okay."
He grabs a pair from the hanger and pairs them together.
"That works," he says.
"Yeah. You can just wear that and spray some cologne before you leave," Keri says.
"Thank you. I love you both."
"Love you too," we say in unison.
We say goodbye and she ends the call. She puts her hand on my thigh.
"No offense to him but I'm glad that we're not in that situation."
"Me too. It'd drive me crazy if I had to wonder whether I was on a date or not."
"To be fair, I wouldn't do that to you. I'd ask you outright if you wanted to go out to dinner or something."
"I know. I'm grateful for that at least."
She smiles and kisses me sweetly.
"Do you want to keep going or do you want to call it a day?" She asks.
"I'm ready to call it a day. It isn't long before your mom is going to come get you."
"Okay."
Twenty minutes later, we're back at the house. It wouldn't have taken that long if it wasn't for the traffic. We hang out until her mom comes to pick her up. She looks out the window.
"My mom's here," she announces.
"Okay. It was good to see you," Mom says.
"You too."
"See you later, Keri," Jaiden says.
"Bye, Jaiden."
"I'll walk you out," I say.
I follow her outside and shut the door.
"I had a good time today. That kind of goes without saying because it's you," I say.
"So did I. Next time it can be a real date."
"I can't wait."
"Me neither."
I kiss her softly. She lingers a bit before she pulls away.
"Good night," she says.
"Good night."
