Then my phone rang. It was Liam. I didn't know whether to answer or not. If I didn't he would be worried, but I wasn't in the mood. I ended picking it up, because my ringtone got into my nerves.
"What?" I said coldly hiding I was crying
"Hey, umm I heard about your sister and... where you crying?" He asked
"I-I" I was hesitant at first because I didn't wanna show my vulnerable side to anyone."Yes, I had a fight with my parents. They believe that I killed her. Especially my dad." I ended up telling him
"Why? I mean why they do not believe you?" He questionedI haven't told anyone about my unsupportive parents or my abusing dad. We had agreed with Leila not to tell anyone and try to live a normal life.
"Meet me at the café near your house in 10. I will explain everything" I simply replied and hung up the phone.
I wiped my tears, got my keys and headphones and left without telling a word to my parents.
When I arrived, Liam was already waiting there. I ordered a coffee and then led Liam to the park.
"So you wanted to talk to me?" He said
"Um...yeah..."
"So go on, tell me."
"Well, um... where do I start?"
"From the beginning."
"Easier said than done. Well let's start from my parents. My dad is a dick. Most of the time he is not home and he made us feel like failures, including Leila."
"Leila?" He laughed. "Leila has like the best grades in class, how could this dickhead make her feel like failure?"
"He always said that it was not enough and that she should try harder. Anyway, one time he hit Leila for having a B, a B! And my mum acts like she doesn't notice anything. That time, when he hit Leila, she wasn't home and instead of believing that he actually did it, she said that we were overreacting. Amd Leila was pretty shook after that incident and when my dad left again, we asked our mom to get her to see a therapist she didn't listen and she denied everything." I started talking so fast that Liam seemed to trying to process what I was saying but at the same time trying to hear what I was saying. It was like my mouth was working quicker than my brain.
"Had he... Had he hit you too?" He asked hesitantly.
"Um..." The truth is he had but it hasn't affected you thatich since you were used to it by now, but admit it in front of Liam... I was just ashamed of my family because his family was okay. His mum, Grace, was so sweet towards me and she didn't care that much about Liam's grades since he didn't wanna go to college, but if he did, he would get because of his talent in sports. "Yes." I whispered. I don't know if he heard me. I said it so quietly that maybe I was the only one that could hear it. But he heard me.
