The familiar sound of clinking snacks greets me as I walk into Nick's kitchen after his mum let me in. I find him already sprawled out at the table, a chaotic spread of chips, pretzels, and some questionable dip in front of him. He glances up from his laptop, his face lighting up with a friendly grin.

"Working away without me?" I take a seat, and grab a pretzel.

He turns his laptop so I can see the screen. Displayed is a game of cards and it looks like he's winning. "Oh," I laugh, "I should have known better."

He exits out of his game and turns the laptop back towards him. "I was just having a game while I waited for you."

Nick's mum walks into the kitchen. "He's lying. He's been on that laptop for about an hour."

I laugh again. Nick gives his mother a look of betrayal. "Mum, if you can't lie for me then what's your purpose in my life?"

She rolls her eyes. "Oh, Nick. Forever the theatrical one." She disappears upstairs, leaving us to get to work.

We worked for an hour before Nick asked, "So, how's the project going on your end?"

"It's coming along. I think we'll be ready to hand it in before the deadline."

"Good. Well, that's enough sociology for today. We've earned ourselves a pizza."

As Nick gets up to order the food, I close my laptop and head into the garden, knowing Easton will be in the back house. When I open the door to the small building, I find Easton with his back to me, working on a car. His dark hair looks slightly wet with sweat, and his muscles ripple under his grease-smeared shirt. The sight makes my heart skip a beat.

He turns around when the door behind me clicks shut. His green eyes look me over with a mix of surprise and amusement. He has a way of looking at me that makes me feel he knows every secret I'm trying to keep hidden. It makes me feel exposed and open.

"Is this another one of your dodgy jobs?" I ask, crossing my arms with a small, teasing smile on my face.

Easton smirks, wiping his hands on a rag before tossing it aside. He steps closer, his presence filling the small space between us. "We don't ask questions, remember?" Although he looks like he's being playful, his words have an edge to them that sends a shiver down my spine.

The memory of the last time we were this close, the night I lost my virginity, flashes in my mind. There's an undeniable attraction that simmers between us, something unspoken but impossible to ignore.

Easton's gaze drops to my lips for a brief moment before meeting my eyes again, his expression softening slightly. "You shouldn't be in here. The fumes aren't good for you."

I roll my eyes which makes his jaw clench. "I think I'll be okay."

     "You're trouble, you know that?"
