As it was the last day before spring break, Steve had decided to drive both Robin and I to school. Not that I don't have my licence, I do, I even have a motorcycle licence but spending time with my brother and his best friend is better than driving there on my own.
Steve was telling us about the complexity of his love life as if it had just started to be complicated but trust me, it has always been that way. As Robin didn't seem to pay that much attention since she was touching-up her makeup, I was trying to focus on what my brother was saying considering that a new girl's name was brought up every 5 minutes.
"Robin, are you listening ?" My brother asked, finally noticing that she hadn't been paying attention this whole time.
"Uh, yes" She hesitantly answered.
"What did I just say then ?" Steve asked.
While Robin paused for a few seconds trying to find an answer, I whisper yelled at her using my hand and everything I could to tell her the answer.
"Something about sex with Linda." Robin replied as I dropped my head in my hands in defeat.
"No, I'm talking about Heidi !" Steve annoyingly said.
"Well cut me some slack please." Robin tiredly said.
"Well-" Steve began before Robin cut him.
"Your love life is one of labyrinth complexity. It is 7:00 in the morning, we have this stupid pep rally and I woke up looking like a corpse." Robin said, stretching her face with her hands while looking at herself in the mirror.
"You're worried about à pep rally ? Expect me to believe that ?" Steve teased.
"Yeah ? So ?" Robin asked.
"So, the 3 of us know what this is truly about. Okay ? I'm not buying that bullshit. This is about Vickie." Steve finally said.
"Absolutely not." Robin said, trying to defend herself.
"Oh come on Rob, admit it." I said, knowing that she's had a crush on her for weeks now.
"No really, it's not." Robin spat, but none of us believed her.
"Yes it is. You know what else?" Steve asked.
"I really don't care." Robin nonchalantly said.
"I think you gotta stop pretending to be someone else when you're around her okay ? You just gotta be yourself." Steve explained.
"Steve's right Rob. If she ever was to like you she should like you for who you truly are." I added.
"You're both literally quoting me to me. Do you realise that ?" Robin asked.
"Maybe you need to listen to yourself. Ever think about that smarty ? I listened to you and now look at me. BOOM, back into business." Steve playfully said.
"It's not the same thing. Okay ?" Robin retorted.
"Well-" Steve began again.
"You ask out a girl and she says no. Big deal. Nothing happens. Maybe your ego's a little bruised. But I ask out the wrong girl and BAM, I'm a town pariah." Robin explained.
"Rob's right about that Steve." I said, exchanging an understanding look with Robin.
"Okay yeah I'd buy that, except that Vickie is definitely not the wrong girl." Steve said.
"We just don't know that, do we ?" Robin asked.
"She returned Fast Times, paused at 53 minutes, 5 seconds." Steve explained.
"That doesn't mean anything Steve." I sighed, waiting for an actual argument.
"Oh you're so wrong about that sister. Do you know who pauses Fast times at 53 minutes, 5 seconds ?" Steve asked.
Robin and I waited for an answer but knowing my brother, I just knew it was going to be an "out of hand" answer.
"People who like boobies ladies !" Steve exclaimed.
"Ew !" Robin fake gagged.
"Yeah, ew Steve." I added. As I said, "out of hand" answer.
"Boobies !" Steve playfully said again.
"Gross. Don't say boobies !" Robin scolded.
"Yeah, can't you just use another word ?" I asked.
"Not a big deal, okay ? I like boobies. You like boobies." Steve said looking at Robin.
"Steve, I'm still here." I said, raising my hand like a student.
"Vickie likes boobies. Definitely." Steve said, a 100% positive about what he just said.
Robin and I looked at Steve in desperation.
"What ? It's just boobies." Steve nonchalantly said.
