Days turned into weeks, and Ashley did her best to move on. She ghosted Alvan, avoiding his calls and texts. She knew it was the only way to protect herself, even though it hurt.
But then, one evening, as she was walking home, she saw him. Alvan stood at her doorstep, looking as ruggedly handsome as ever. Her heart skipped a beat, but she steeled herself.
"Ashley, we need to talk," he said, his voice earnest.
She shook her head. "There's nothing left to say, Alvan. I've moved on."
"I miss you," he admitted, his eyes searching hers. "I miss what we had."
"What we had was nothing more than a fling to you," she replied, her voice firm. "I wanted more, and you didn't. I can't keep hurting myself like that."
Alvan looked down, regret flashing across his face. "I understand. I just... I wish things could be different."
Ashley took a deep breath, feeling a weight lift off her shoulders. "Me too, Alvan. But it's too late. I've moved on, and so should you."
With that, she walked past him, feeling a sense of closure wash over her. She knew she deserved more than just a fling, and she was ready to find it, even if it meant letting go of the man who had once captivated her heart.
