Echoes Of Ascended Sorrows (RAIN WORLD AU)

PROLOGUE

Long ago before 'the great problem', all Ancients were born with one regular karma level; the higher the karma, the higher the royalty. Once the Ancients discovered the cycle, they all remained hopeless, waiting for a saviour to set them free, until Three Shards Of Autumn was born, and she was gifted the power of ascension, making her everyone's escape due to her maximum karma level. Although she didn't want this fate, she grew up worshipped and considered "holy". Every day Three Shards Of Autumn spent her time freeing her visitors from the cycle. Little did she know that deep underground, the undiscovered void sea's power was fading the more ancients she ascended. Once she realised her ability was fading after the very first unsuccessful ascension, leading to an innocent ancient being trapped in the echo system, she isolated herself from society, not allowing anyone to visit her anymore. On her 1000th cycle, and after much brainstorming, she created a powerful being known as the 'Slugcat' with the purpose and ability to ascend. Though because of her draining power, all slugcats were born at the first karma level. With Three Shards Of Autumn's remaining power, she created over 100 ancient slugcats, possibly more, causing her to pass away on the next cycle from her power consuming her from the inside out. But before she ascended, she told her closest friend and assistant to spread the word. When he did, the ancients began worshipping the Slugcats instead. However, the ancients remained oblivious to their unique karma system. And after none of the Slugcats provided them with an end to their problem, they all began creating replicas of the Ancient Slugcats, the slugcats being affected by the single karma system as well.vafter a while once the Ancients couldn't figure out a solution, they discovered the void sea, they all jumped into it, remaining unaware of the echo system. Because of the void sea's weak fluid, half of the ancients became echoes, the other half ascending peacefully. The replica Slugcats became enraged by the Ancient Slugcats "uselessness" and they committed a mass attack on them, killing them and throwing their bodies into the void sea. But when this happened, some of the ancient slugcats survived and fled. Now both species of Slugcat were left with no answer to ascension after the bodies in the void absorbed the rest of the small amount of void fluid left, leading to clans, enemies, and the mission to figure out some sort of ascension system in the broken remains of the world that was once conquered by ancients, the ancient slugcats not knowing how to gain karma.
