My arrow cut through the air like butter, hitting the bullseye of my target directly.

I was one of those kids. The ones that were phrased as 'supernatural' or a 'blessing from the gods'.

My hearing was scarily sharp, and my eyesight was better than half of the Fire Nation. My hands-eye co-ordination bested adults that had trained for years to be able to hit the red center of the target.

I knocked another arrow and released it, hitting my previous arrow and splitting it down the middle. I repeated my action twice more with dangerous speed and precision, splitting the original arrow more each time.

"Absolutely not."

I stopped in my tracks.

Who was the colonel talking to?

"The Yu Yan archers stay here. Your request is denied Commander Zhao," the colonel spoke firmly. Once he had made up his mind, nothing could change it.

"Colonel Shinu, please reconsider," came a surprisingly annoying voice.

It was demanding, with a slight husk to it, indicating that this was just another old man with power that wanted to use us like toys.

I knocked four arrows.

"Their precision is legendary. The Yu Yan can pin a fly to a tree from a hundred yards away, without killing it."

I released my arrows, and my distaste for old men in power, hitting four different targets square in the center.

"You're wasting their talents using them as mere security guards," the annoying man finished.

That was something we could both agree on. I never got to leave the stronghold because of my job protecting it.

I had never seen the land outside of the Fire Nation city I lived in, but my mother always told me it was beautiful. My mother was an Earth Kingdom colonial.

She spoke to me about the ways of bending. That the benders of the Earth Kingdom bent the ground beneath our feet.

"I can do whatever I want with their talents, they're my archers and what I say goes," the colonal refused.

"But my search for the avatar is-"

Woosh. My arrows released once more, nailing the targets so hard that they poked out the other side.

"Is nothing but a vanity project. We're fighting a real war here, and I need every man I've got commander."

Damn. Burn.

"But-"

"That's final! I don't wanna here another word about it."

Hah, nice.

A screech sounded throughout the night. A messenger hawk.

"News from the Fire Lord?" the annoying man asked.

"It seems I've been promoted to Admiral. My request is now an order."

Oh, no. I am not going anywhere with this dude.

And that was the last I heard from them.

The next morning, we packed up and headed for the Fire Nation stronghold closest to where the Avatar was last sighted.

I wasn't all that happy about having to travel, but I shut up when I heard about the rooms we were going to get.
