"Basically, I'm grounded."
Master Vernestra doesn't look happy with Osha's assessment of the situation, but that is what this is.
Even with the truth known, Osha feels she is still being unfairly judged for Mae's wrong-doings. Until her sister is apprehended, Master Vernestra has requested that Osha remain at The Academy, which by default suspends her Jedi Knight duties.
"It's a temporary precaution. Two Jedi Masters have been killed now and the suspect is still at large, a suspect with a personal tie to you. As there was no body, we have to work on the assumption that both Master and Apprentice are still alive. This is for your safety," Master Vernestra explains.
"It feels like I'm not being trusted."
"It's not a matter of trust, but security."
There is movement in The Force, a subtle shifting, like a snake unseen, slithering through the grass. Osha could feel the bond now, how it coils tighter around her; he was pulling on it, weaving it lightly between his fingers, just enough to whisper to her.
Your security.... or theirs?
Shut up! Osha hisses.
Concern flickers over Master Vernestra's face, and for a terrible moment, Osha feels sick with dread, wondering if the Jedi Master had heard the exchange. Osha assures herself that it can't be that. It's more likely that Master Vernestra had picked up on Osha's surge of emotions at having heard The Stranger's voice once more.
Master Vernestra should not be able to hear The Stranger's voice, and Osha is reasonably sure she should not be able to sense the bond either. It is not an easy thing to detect - especially when you aren't looking for it. Osha has a suspicion that it has something to do with The Stranger purposely concealing it - it would explain why Osha herself had remained oblivious to it for so long.
It is an unnerving thought. How long has this connection existed? How long has he known about it and hid it from her? How had it been created in the first place? What purpose could it serve?
Too many uneasy questions with no answers. Once this debriefing was finished, she would need to find time to go to the archive and begin her investigation. The Stranger was powerful, there was no doubt about that. The bond and its capabilities were an unknown quantity, but what little Osha did know did not bode well with her.
The Stranger was able to get inside her head, even from great distances. He could communicate with her and seemed to be aware of what was going on around her - though to what extent was unclear.
What was clear was that the bond had compromised Osha. Made her a liability. Through her, a Sith - the Jedi's most persistent and powerful enemy - had eyes and ears inside The Jedi Academy. A Sith, who with the help of her sister, had slain Jedi Masters. This bond was dangerous, not only to herself but those around her.
If she couldn't find a means of breaking it... she wouldn't be able to stay here. If someone found out about it... they would make her leave.
It felt like the galaxy itself was trying to steal her away from The Order. From all that she wanted. All that she knew.
"I was permitted to retrieve Master Kelnacca. I don't see why I should be restricted now," Osha says, her voice firmer than she feels.
"Your presence on that mission was highly controversial," Master Vernestra states dryly.
