A/N: Is it the last day of July? Yes. Buttttttttt Enigma Day is Sunday so more chapters then and tbh when you read this chapter, you're gonna be glad you don't have to wait a month for the next update💀
I had no interest in returning to the Mikaelson compound, especially if I was going to come across my useless excuse of a husband and his latest infraction. So instead, I traipsed the roads of New Orleans. My walk was seemingly aimless, merely walking wherever my legs would carry me, but turns out they had a destination in mind as soon as I was standing opposite the apartment I once shared with Camille.
I wasn't sure why she was on my mind so much now that I was back in New Orleans but there she was. Perhaps I was feeling another loss at the hands of the Mikaelson family. Perhaps I was feeling the loss of the only sane person who ever loved me. Or perhaps I was feeling the loss of the opportunity to have given her that same love.
Klaus had made me feel so guilty for even considering something with her, I put those feelings away. Any chance I had with Kol was squandered. I left Damon because of him. Any real chance of happiness I had outside of him I had lain to rest. Yet here he was, parading around with a woman he swore he felt nothing for.
"I forgive you, you know."
I was jolted out of my thoughts by the appearance of Rebekah. She was standing beside me, her gaze also locked on Cami's former home. I barely had time to process her arrival, let alone her words.
"You do? Why?" I asked with brows narrowed in suspicion.
"Because you would forgive me," she said with a simple shrug. "You always forgive me. I brought back Mikael, I left you to die with Silas."
I shook my head. "I've done just as many things to you, I hid this, I let Nik kill Emil."
"And I hid Hayley." Rebekah turned to me with a smile that reminded me of fonder times. "That's what we do, Fiore. We're sisters. We say and do horrible things to each other all the time, but we always forgive each other. We have a love that will never give way to hate. I adore you."
"Rebekah, I..." I didn't know how I wanted to finish that sentence. I was certainly happy to have her forgiveness, but I wasn't sure where that left us. Where that left me.
"We all hate Amelia by the way," Rebekah continued. "She is no you. She is no Camille."
Now it was my turn to shrug. "Whatever business your brother has with her is his business."
"Fiore, please," Rebekah said with a roll of her eyes. "I heard the two of you last night, so let's not feign indifference. Not to mention, you are literally at the place where the most successful third party of your relationship once lived."
"It's not an act," I told her. "I do not answer to Klaus, and he certainly does not answer to me."
"Yes he does. He only answers to you. Not even Amelia."
"Really?"
"HAH!" She said with a triumphant grin. "I knew you cared."
"...Whatever."
"Yes, really," she told me with a warm smile. "My brother is many things, but chiefly he is in love with you."
"Of course, that explains Amelia."
"It does," she continued, either not noticing my obvious sarcasm or wilfully ignoring it. "Your departure left a void in us all, but him in particular. He has never known a world without your love, he cannot exist without love to anchor him."
"Hm."
"He and Grace danced to Unforgettable at her debutante ball," said Rebekah, turning me to face her. "Don't you see? You erased his mind, and he still found a way to keep you. He loves you Fiore, with everything that he is."
