The walk to the castle was pretty tiring. It was easier with the ground not as muddy, but it was still long and difficult. Bosco wasn't sure if she could keep going back and forth.
But the need to see Daya was urging her to keep going. It was like stepping into a dream world as she got closer to the castle. Nobody could hurt her while she was here. The real world didn't exist out here. She was safe by Daya's side. Which was surprising, considering what she was.
Daya was waiting for her as the sun was going down. The hours cleaning up did little to distract her from missing Bosco. So when she saw her walking up to the open gates with a backpack and a picnic basket in her hand, she immediately lit up with excitement and rushed down from the window she had been watching from.
"You came back." She said with a smile, watching in the doorway as Bosco walked up the steps. She wanted so badly to reach out for her hand and help her, but she doubted she could get that far.
Bosco returned her smile, gazing up at the taller girl. "Of course I did." She said, standing in front of her. "And I brought you some things you might like."
Daya's head tilted in curiosity. Even Maddy and Camden perked their heads up from the chandelier they perched on. The vampire held her hand out for the smaller girl's. "I did something for you too." She said a little shyly. "Can I show you?"
Bosco wouldn't dare say no. She placed her hand in Daya's and let her lead the way. The taller girl's excitement was contagious, and the whole castle seemed to be a little bit lighter with her change in attitude.
She was taken to the dining room she had seen just the day before, and her eyes widened when she saw the difference in it. Most of the dust was gone, and the golden chandelier was now lit up and casting the room in a soft glow that mixed with the light coming through the stained glass windows. A small spot at the table had been set up for them, with candles lit and plates set up and all.
Daya squeezed Bosco's hand as she led her over to the table. "I know it's not all that nice." She said, helping her place the basket onto the table before she pulled one of the seats out for her. "I just wanted it to be more welcoming for you."
Bosco placed her bag down and took a seat, blushing over the kind gesture. "You don't think this is nice? I think it's more than nice."
Daya sat beside her, their hands finding each other's again as if they were meant to be laced together. To see Bosco's smile made the difficulty of going through the memories worth it. "I missed you." She said softly. "It's nice to have someone with me."
Bosco felt her finger trace patterns over the top of her hand. "I wish I had found you sooner then." She said, looking down at where they touched for a moment before focusing on what she brought. She only let go to open up the basket, and Daya watched eagerly.
She pulled out a small container. "I made cupcakes for you. My sister took one before she left for work, but they're still for you." Bosco said as she opened up the lid, revealing the little vanilla cupcakes and their pink frosting. "I also have some strawberries and cookies and some pasta. But there's no garlic in that because I'm not sure if it's true that you can't have that."
It wasn't blood, but Daya could care less. While no, she didn't have to eat normal food to survive, it was great to have. And the thought Bosco had put into it made her feel comforted and cared about for the first time in a long time. She picked up one of the cupcakes, the pupil of her good eye turning to a slit. "You brought this all for me?"
Bosco nodded, a little nervous. She didn't know what she could and couldn't bring for the vampire to eat. And she also wasn't the most amazing chef.
She watched Daya sink her teeth into the cupcake, her eyes widening at the full sight of her fangs. They were extremely sharp, and seeing them like that made her a little uneasy.
