Warnings— 1.2k words, angst, dual pov. I don't think the end is a cliffhanger but you might think so.

MIGUEL'S POV

"Hold on, Mariposa. What are you talking about?"

"I'll go to community college here. I'll work part-time. I have it all figured out." This is crazy. Absolutely crazy, right?

"Hold on, what makes you think I'm going to let you work—

"I also thought about my parents. They're going to freak the fuck out. That's why we're going over today to talk to—

"Y/N, just wait a minute!"

She pauses. "What?"

"What do you mean what? Baby, as much as I want you to stay. It's crazy. I mean you want us to go talk to your parents? It's—it's its suicide."

Her shoulders deflated just like my heart. "They already hate me. They're going to think that I asked you to stay—

"But you didn't. This was my decision." She cries softly.

"You know how you always say I can't live without you. Well, neither can I."

"But you worked so hard for that scholarship. It's not fair that you're willing to throw it all away... for me."

"I did work hard for that scholarship and school is important for me... but you are too."

I sigh. "I don't want you to regret it later on."

"I already made my decision, Miguel. I'm not going to change my mind. I want to be with you. Face it, as much as we wanted a long-distance relationship. It wasn't going to work and you know it too."

She was right. As much as we tried to believe. It wasn't going to work out.

I consider the idea. "What would we even say to them?"

"That we're in love."

"They're going to want more than that and also I'm going to need a fucking football helmet. Your mother is still in town."

Mariposa lays a smile. "So you want me to stay."

I sigh. "Of course I want you to stay."

She ran into my arms, and I hugged so tight. Granted it's only been an hour since we parted, but it felt like an eternity. "I hope you know what you're doing. Because you're stuck with me now I'm not going to let you go."

"You don't have to. I'm yours to keep."

"Mine."

REGULAR POV

I take a big breath before knocking.

I have no idea what I'm doing. But staying here with Miguel... it feels right.

It feels like home.

"Y/N, w-What are you doing here?" Antonia stammers, obviously surprised to see me.

"Are my parents here?" I ask.

She slowly nods, still stunned. "Yeah... living room."

Nodding, I walk in. "Mom, Dad?"

They both turn, eyes widening. "Sol? What happened are you alright?" Mom was quick to hug me.

"Did something happen on your flight?" Dad asks.

"N-No. I um I got off."

"What? Why?"

Moms have the best intuitions. Either that or mine just knows me very well. "Oh no. Sol, please tell me, you didn't!"

"Did what?" Dad asks confused.

"Mom, please. Just let me explain, okay? I want to go to college but Harvard was your guy's dream, not mine. I was okay with just community college."

"We worked so hard for that scholarship, y/n!!"

"No Mom. I did. I did it on my own. I did it because I knew how much it meant to you. I wanted to fill that void you have."

"I can't believe this." She spits, hands up.

"Okay let's just take a breather here. So y/n, got cold feet. It's okay. It happens to everyone."

"No H/N. Can't you see? She's not going to Harvard because she wants to stay with Miguel!" She snaps at him.

Dad's eyes form a thin line and calmly he says dangerously. "What did you say?"

"I can't believe you're letting a man like Miguel hold you back from a bright future. You are the dumbest girl. I'm so disappointed in you."

I expected this reaction but it still hurt to hear.

"Okay, I'm sorry but I'm interjecting. Yes, she made a few mistakes but she isn't dumb. Y/N is just a young girl who is in love." Antonia says.

"I'm sorry Toni but I agree with her," Dad speaks up. He bored into my mind. It got so cold and cloudy. I have a feeling a storm is coming. "You are a smart girl but when it comes to the real world. You're stupid if you think Miguel is going to make you happy. He might be financially stable now but he's lazy, deadbeat, and most of all... a cheater. He's never going to change. If he didn't change for Xina who's the mother of his daughter... Do you think he's going to change for a nineteen-year-old girl who doesn't value herself? You settle for less but you're worth so much more. Open your eyes and see it. Stop disappointing us."

Yup, just like I predicted it rained... mostly tears but it sure did rain.

"I'm sorry that I am a disappointment to you guys... but you know what Dad... so were you."

"Okay, break time." Antonia does a time-out gesture. But it's too late.

"What the hell are you talking about?"

"You blame Miguel for what happened but you forget that you were the one who CHOSE him over us. No one forced you. You made the decision all on your own. You threw your family in the fire so you could cover up for your best friend. You let us down. You're the disappointment of a man who didn't fight for his family."

"Y/N!"

"And you Mom. I was your biggest cheerleader. I did nothing but support you as you grew cold. You disappointed me by not illusion love more in my life. Because guess what, love is beautiful. It's not dangerous and not something to keep away from your daughter. Love is a magnetic force that you can't separate from because it's meant to be."

"Miguel and I are meant to be."

"Growing up I was never a happy kid. I hated life. I was never comfortable anywhere. But that all changed when I saw Miguel again. He makes me see life in a different light. He makes me feel comfortable and most of all he makes me freaking happy. If you guys can't see that. Then that's on you. I am sorry for putting you guys through this but I can't control the love my heart has for him."

"So you're going to let him ruin your life?"

"He's not ruining my life... he's fixing it."

"If he's fixing it then why didn't he come with you? He should want to fix things with your father."

"He does want to fix things... with the both of you." I swallow. "He's in the car."

My parents fall silent but Antonia raises her opinion. "Alright, we are fixing this today. It is what it is. No matter which school your daughter goes to. She will be successful. And the two of you should be proud of her no matter what because she is smart, beautiful, and aspires to follow her heart and dreams. She could have kept this from you guys but she was brave enough to face you both because she loves Miguel that much. She doesn't want to hurt either of you but she can't ignore her feelings." She pauses to inhale a breath.

"Y/N, dinner will be ready in fifteen... bring him in. We're going to talk as a family."

Yes, ma'am
