Everyone knows the story of Albert Shaw, nicknamed "The Grabber.' They know of his horrible crimes and the six victims whom these heinous acts were committed against. They knew of the miraculous survival of all six boys who were kidnapped by him. They know of the way he died, ending the reign of terror that he caused throughout North Denver. This was a tale that everyone was familiar with.
There was a lesser known story there as well though. The story of Melinda Shaw, his pitiful, invisible daughter. Hardly anyone knew her name or identity. She always blended into the background, never calling attention to herself. After 'The Grabber' was gone and the crimes were undoubtedly connected to him, a lot of people finally realized that she existed; that this serial child kidnapper had a kid of his own.
It was a horrible realization for all, and rumors flew immediately.
Who was this girl?
Was she actually his daughter?
Did he kidnap her too?
Did she know that her father kidnapped those boys?
Was she an accomplice in his crimes?
The invisible girl turned into someone who was always talked about. She was an anomaly, an unknown factor to this story everyone thought they knew. There were no clear answers, as Melinda refused to talk about it unless it was to the six missing boys. This was another fact that baffled all; she was somehow friends with the boys her father kidnapped. No one knew anything and no answers were being offered anywhere. It seemed like the 14 year old girl would forever remain a mystery, a blip in a known horror story.
Well, I am here to give you that story, the story of a 14 year old girl whose life was a horror story itself. The story of a young, innocent kid just trying to make it, one day at a time. The story of a girl whose only friends met a horrible fate. The story of a soul who just wanted to find a little bit of love in the world. The story of an unlikely hero, who helped those boys stay alive and escape. The story of Melinda Shaw, the daughter of The Grabber.
