The crunching of snow as foot steps approach closer unwavering, yet, determined. The foot steps became rushed, as if noticing something. It doesn't matter it has nothing to do with me now..."Shhh! Quiet- you're gonna wake her!"
"Awww but Ms. Amyyyy... she's been asleep for 2 days now!"
Ms. Amy: "Yes, but that doesn't mean that we should rush her recovery, Alan."
He softly sighed directing his attention towards the sleeping girl infront of him. Her face was drained of life it was a wonder how she was still breathing, he sat there recalling the time when they had first brought her in. It was a rainy day and Ms. Amy was returning from her visit to the church where she said she had found this girl sitting against the wall in an alley covered in wounds and scars. Ms. Amy couldn't have left her there so she took her into our orphanage.
"I will have to go now to attend to the other children, Alan you'll take good care of her for me won't you?"
Alan nodded vigorously, Ms. Amy chuckled and patted Alan on the head. " I am counting on you~" She said before she left closing the door behind her. After she left, Alan picked up the towel from the bowl of water drained it of water and and filled it up again and cleaning the towel before hanging it out to dry. He opened the drawer across the bed to pick up another towel and doused it in water, he gently wiped her face and her neck to her arms and then placed it back into the bowl of water and cleaned the towel then laid it against the rim of the bowl. He went and grabbed a dry towel from the same drawer and dried her off.
After he was done he held her hand with two of his hands and he gave a small whisper.
"Get well soon." He said.
"It's warm..." She thought.
Slowly opening her eyes she was greeted with a white haired boy that was seated beside her that was asleep holding her hand. Looking down at her hand she sighed softly. "I was ...saved" She thought to herself, taking a look around the room she realized where she was and how this white haired kid might have lived so far.
She freed her hand gently from his and gently stroked his head. They sat that way for a while.
Waking from his peaceful slumber he had realized that the girl he had taken care of was no longer there, the blanket had slid off his shoulders. Bursting open the door he ran to find Ms. Amy.
"MS. AMY, MS. AMY THE GIRL IS GONE SHE'S GONE!" He cried.
To only realize that the girl he had been helping this entire time was sitting quietly by the dinner table eating along side the other kids from the orphanage. The girl quietly stared at the boy who was found dumbfounded his face flushed into a vibrant rose color. Ms. Amy entered and noticed Alan's flustered state and laughed.
"No need to worry Alan, she is doing well so far and barely started to eat why don't you take a seat and join her?" Ms. Amy gestured as she went into the kitchen to clean the dishes.
Taking a moment to get seated he sat beside the girl as she peacefully ate she slowly placed down her spoon and looked up at Alan. He hadn't noticed until now how beautiful her eyes were, to him it was as if looking into a beautiful meadow. Realizing he had been staring he averted his gaze rather awkwardly and began eating, nearly choking on his food.
It was the afternoon of January when the kids went out to play it was then when Ms. Amy sat down with the girl in one of the rooms and asked her.
"So little one, I have been wondering... what is your name?"
The girl sat there quietly for a moment staring at Ms. Amy who waited patiently for a response.
"My name... is Seven."
