Antonio spent the rest of the night on edge, his mind replaying the confrontation with Delirium. The shadows in his room seemed to whisper malevolent threats, and he knew he couldn't face this alone. But how could he explain Delirium to Michaela without sounding insane? Morning came too quickly, and Antonio dragged himself to school, his thoughts still tangled in fear and determination.

During their break, he found Michaela in the library, poring over old records and articles. "Any luck?" Antonio asked, sliding into the seat across from her. Michaela shook her head. "Nothing concrete yet, but I found something intriguing." She handed him an old newspaper clipping. "It's from Trey's hometown. There's a legend about an ancient spirit called Oniisa, which translates to 'Darkness' in the language of the local Native American tribe. It's believed to have been summoned by the Ocheole Tribe to drive away the settlers from their land centuries ago."

Antonio scanned the article, his eyes widening. "It says here that Oniisa was meant to terrorize the settlers until they left theTribes land. But what happened to it?" Michaela leaned closer, her voice low. "The legend goes that the settlers believed they defeated Oniisa, slaughtering the Ocheole tribe that summoned it. But there are reports scattered across history of similar disappearances and lone survivors, just like what Trey described."

Antonio's mind raced, connecting the dots. "Trey's story about his friends disappearing in his hometown... It matches these reports. What if Oniisa wasn't defeated? What if it's been lurking all these years, causing these disappearances?" Michaela nodded thoughtfully. "It would explain why Trey has been running. He may have encountered Oniisą, or maybe it's been hunting him ever since."Antonio glanced around nervously, suddenly aware of the weight of their discovery. "We need to find out more. We look for any connections between Trey and the disappearances, any signs that he might be more involved than he's letting on."They decided to expand their investigation by talking to a police officer who had been investigating one of the recent disappearances in Augusta, Georgia.

They managed to arrange a phone call with Officer Martinez, a seasoned detective known for his meticulous work. As they called, they could hear the slur in his voice—Martinez was clearly drunk."Thank you for speaking with us," Antonio said as they connected the call. "We're reporters from the Fairview Chronicle."Officer Martinez's voice crackled through the speaker. "Fairview Chronicle, huh? You sure don't sound like reporters. But sure, what do you need?"Michaela explained their interest in the case, carefully omitting any mention of Oniisa. "We've come across a pattern of disappearances that seem similar to the case you're investigating. We were hoping to talk to the survivor, she's a vital role in the piece we are writing."

Officer Martinez's tone turned slightly more cooperative, perhaps loosened by the alcohol. "Rachel Carter is the survivor you're referring to. She was pretty shaken up, understandably. What stood out to me was how she described the night it happened. She mentioned that her boyfriend at the time was acting strange, distant. He was there when it all went down, but he disappeared without a trace along with the others."Antonio and Michaela exchanged a glance. "Did she say anything specific about her boyfriend?" Antonio asked carefully.Martinez's suspicion was palpable, even through his inebriation. "Why are you two so interested in this?"Antonio quickly improvised.

"We're looking into these events for an article on how local folklore and real historical events intersect. We think there's a pattern that could explain some of these disappearances."Officer Martinez seemed to accept this, though he remained cautious. "Rachel didn't say much about her boyfriend. She did mention that he had had something to with it, and he always had secrets he wouldn't share with her."Antonio asked another question. "Why didn't you interview the boyfriend directly?"Martinez sighed, the sound of his drink clinking in the background. "We couldn't. He disappeared shortly after the incident. There's a sketch out for his questioning, but we haven't had any luck. I'll send over a picture tomorrow when I go to work."

After thanking Officer Martinez, Antonio and Michaela decided to call Rachel Carter. They found her number through some online research and managed to arrange a phone call with her. "Thank you for talking to us, Rachel," Michaela said gently as they began the call.Rachel's voice trembled slightly. "I just want to understand what happened. Maybe talking about it will help."Antonio asked softly, "Can you tell us more about your boyfriend? Officer Martinez mentioned he was acting strange that night."Rachel's voice held a note of pain. "Yeah, his name was... well, I don't really want to say. But he was acting really off. It was like he knew something bad was coming. He was there when it happened, but after the others disappeared, I never saw him again. I always felt deep down he had something to do with my friends disappearing" Michaela leaned forward, sensing a crucial detail. "Did he have any distinguishing features? Anything that stood out?" Rachel hesitated, then nodded.

"He always disappeared in the night and he has a tattoo on his chest of this weird symbol." Can you describe the tattoo to me please?" Michaela asked. Rachel paused for wha felt like forever. "Sure. It was this circle with spiky edges, like a messed-up sun, but instead of normal rays, it had these dark, twisty lines coming about of it. In the middle, there was this freaky eye that looked like it was half-closed and staring right at you. Around the eye, there were all these strange, ancient looking symbols that seemed to move if you stared at them to long. The whole thing gave off a super creepy vibe, like it was alive or something."

As they ended the call, Antonio and Michaela felt the weight of their discovery. They were one step closer to understanding the mysterious connection between Oniisa and the disappearances. Though the pieces of the puzzle were still scattered, they knew they had to keep digging to uncover the truth behind Oniisa and its link to Trey. Back at the library, they dug deeper into the history of Oniisa and the Native American tribes that summoned it.
