"It's Denise. She's back....at ito pa, nagpunta siya sa campus kanina, hinahanap ka."
Denise, My first love. The memories of her flooded back—of stolen glances, laughter on summer nights, and the way he always seemed to understand me in those days when I wasn't sure who I was. I sat up, adrenaline coursing through me. I had moved on.
"Ba't diyan sa La Salle?"
"Tanga ka ba? malamang sa La Salle talaga maghahanap 'yon eh don nagsimula love story niyo." Jacey chuckled.
"What did she say?" tanong ko ulit.
"Hinahanap ka, sabi ko hindi ko alam. Tapos eto namang si Stacey ang daldal! ayon, kung hindi pa dahil sa kadaldalan ni Staks hindi pa niya malalaman na lumipat ka."
"Nandon ba si Cole nung dumating siya?" tanong ko ulit dahil mas malaki ang galit ni Cole kay Denise na para bang siya ang iniwan at hindi ako.
"Wala. Buti na nga lang may inaasikaso siya about sa band, baka kung ano na lang nangyari if kasama namin." saad nito.
"Ano gagawin mo ngayon? She's back, Mavs. It's been what? 4 years?." sunod-sunod na tanong ni Jacey.
"I already moved on, Jae." seryosong sagot ko dahil ito ang totoo.
"Are you sure about that? or sinasabi mo lang 'yan dahil may Ali ka na ngayon sa buhay mo. Maybe, you're just distracted?"
"Jae, I told you. I'm over with her and you guys know me. Before I enter new relationship I always make sure that I leave everything in the past."
"Oo nga, pero paano pag humingi siya ng second chance?"
Denise had once been my whole world. Each glimmering memory of her reminded me of what I was losing with every moment spent apart from Ali. As I wrestled with my emotions, an unsettling thought crossed my mind—was I about to sacrifice what I had built with Ali for something that belonged to the past?
"I wouldn't give her any chance. Instead, I'll ask her what's the reason why she left me without explaining anything. I still want closure after all." I explained.
"Hmm okay.... anw, Mavs. Kumusta kayo ni Al?"
"Still complicated, Jae. Hindi pa rin alam nila Maloi na may something sa amin." sagot ko sa tanong niya.
"Let me guess. Hindi pa rin siya ready?" she chuckled. My friends knows that me and Ali have a thing.
"Yup. I want to understand her, but hindi naman niya sinasabi 'yung reason."
"Ang bilis naman kasi ng pangyayari. After ng break up nila ng ex niya, you shoot your shot na agad. She's still healing you know? or maybe because she's not yet out sa parents niya kaya hindi pa siya ready na ipagsigawan ka, being part of LGBTQIA+ is hard to accept lalo na pag sa magulang na gustong magkapamilya anak nilang babae, even tho you can impregnate her, iba pa rin magiging trato ng tao sa inyo. Just understand her, Ven." natauhan naman ako sa sinabi niya.
"You're right, Jacey. Am I being selfish for that?"
"To be honest, Ven. Yes, you are. But, I know naman kung bakit, you're just scared na mangyari ulit yung nangyari dati. Be patience to Ali, dadating din kayo sa point na ready na kayo sa lahat ng bagay." seryosong sagot ni Jacey.
I'm so lucky to have a friend like her.
"Mga line mo, parang in love ah." asar ko sa kaniya.
"Sira. Gala na ulit tayo next time, miss ka na namin." at ang loko kunwari pang umiiyak.
"Kadiri." I chuckled pero sa totoo lang, I miss them too.
