Grian pov:

I sat on the yellow school bus that would bring me and my siblings to camp. Every year it was the same, parents make us go to camp green life over the summer so we got some fresh air and maybe make some friends. I don't know why they thought I needed more fresh air, I already spent most of my time in the yard playing with the grass hoppers. Same goes for the friends part of it, I don't need them and I don't want them.

"You think we're all gonna be in the same cabin this year?" Timmy said from where he sat, right next to me.

"Probably not, it seems unlikely." Pearl said rolling her eyes at our younger brother.

"I just hope my cabin mates are quiet and that I can ignore them." I said as I ruffled through my backpack for my sketch book. I pulled it out along with a pencil and began to draw.

After an hour or so of driving we finally reached the camp. A familiar smell of camp fires, conifers, and mud filled my nostrils as we got off the bus. It wasn't unpleasant, it smelled like nature, but it also smelled like a dead mouse I saw in my peripheral vision.

A counselor with bright blue hair walked up to us and the rest of the group of people that we were on the bus with.

"Hello campers! I'm jinx, and I will be the cabin 1 counselor this summer. I'm gonna read my list here of who I'm gonna to counseling this year so please listen for your name." She called out three of the girls I recognized from last year and pearl.

More counselors came up to the group until it was just me and three other boys I recognized all just waiting in awkward silence.

A loggerhead shrieked avian with black hair  ran up to us from where the cabins were while saying something about how he was so sorry he was late.

"I'm Luke, I'm so so so sorry I didn't get here sooner. It's my first year counseling and I'm very lost." He said with a shaky smile. He didn't look much older than me, maybe 19, normally the counselors were around 19-22 but some had been around since I was like 7.

"It's fine dude." A boy with a helmet said with a shrug.

"Ok, so as there are four of you im guessing you're my group. How about we all go to your cabin, settle in, and introduce ourselves?" Luke said smiling at us. We all agreed and walked with Luke to cabin three. I claimed a top bunk and set my bag down. I peered over the edge of the bunk so I could see the others.

"Alright so, I'm luke I already told you guys that. what are your names?" He said with a practiced smile.

"I'm Xisuma, you can just call me X if you want." The boy with the helmet said from where he sat in a bottom bunk. "That's mumbo," Xisuma said pointing to a boy with a mustache and black hair. "And Scott is up there." He added pointing up at a boy with teal hair.

"And you?" Luke said looking at me.

"Grian." I responded.

"It seems like most of you all ready know each other, that's good! Im gonna leave now but I'll be back when it's time for dinner." Luke said before turning and leaving. Luke seemed like a nervous fidgety person, not a great leader but he seemed like he was trying his best.

The others chatted together for a while, I wasn't really paying attention to them until they said my name and I realized they were asking me a question.

"So grian, are you new to this camp I don't think I've seen you before." Mumbo said looking at me.

"Nope, been going here since I was 6 years old." I said without looking up, I was drawing moths and butterflies in my sketch book.

"Oh." Mumbo said rubbing the back of his neck and clearing wanting someone to change the subject.

"You're siblings with Pearl right?" Scott asked tilting his head.

"Yeah." I said hoping they would leave me alone now.

"Cool, cool, anyways-" Scott continued, I stoped listening from then on as he moved back to talking to his friends.

After a while I heard a knock on the cabin door. I guessed it must have been Luke but when X got up to open it pearl and the three other girls in her cabin stood there.

"Anyone here wanna go down to the lake?" A girl with pink hair- I think her name was Lizzie, asked.

Pretty much everyone ages 15-17 knew each other here, we went to the same schools outside of camp, hung out together, grew up together. Not me though, at a young age I understood that the social life was just not my thing. If they don't want me, then I don't want them.

"Sure, let's go guys." Scott said gesturing for the rest of us to follow.

We walked away from the cabins and down through a forest path to the lake. The lake sort of sucks early in the summer, after a few thunderstorms and a lot of rain it gets a lot more interesting.
I sat and began poking around in the grass and more forested area around the lake, mostly flipping rocks to see if anything interesting was underneath. I flipped a large stone and a gardener snake slithered out, before it could get away I grabbed it carefully.

"Ack! Grian put that down it's a wild animal!" Pearl said when she saw me staring at the snake. I'd never caught a snake before.

"It's not dangerous, the worst it can do is bite me and it's not venomous so even then it's fine." I responded smiling at the snake.

All of the other campers just looked at me then the snake then decided I must be crazy or just really weird. They all went back to what they were doing so I sat down on a boulder with the snake wound around my hand.

It's so unthreatened by me, I wonder if that's just because I'm calm or if it's young and doesn't know people are scary yet. (Don't do this irl kids the snake will bite you if you don't know how to handle it)

I heard the sound of foot steps behind me and turns to see a tall vex hybrid with small gray-blue wings and icy blue claws walking up to me. He had scars all across his body, an X across his face, and lines on his arms and legs.
He was pretty though, a kind expression, longish hair that looked fluffy, and sharp white teeth.

"Can I see the snake?" He asked with a smile. I blinked at him in confusion, why was he talking to me? It wasn't social anxiety or anything, just confusion.

Was he new around here? Did he not understand that the kid holding a snake is probably not a popular kid? Why would he talk to me on purpose? Only pearl or Jimmy do that and they're my siblings???

A million questions were running through my mind but also one voice that I must have shoved away for so long.
