The air felt heavy, weird, and just plain wrong. A plume of black smoke snaked its way around them, curling like something sinister. The leaves rustled in a way that made the hair on the back of y/n's neck stand up. Something was definitely not right.

Y/n and Inumaki exchanged wide-eyed glances. "Kelp," he murmured, the only thing he could say to indicate the seriousness of the situation. He yanked the zipper of his collar down, being ready.

"Something's here..." y/n whispered, she scanned their surroundings for any sign of a cursed spirit or something worse.

Out of nowhere, a hand gripped her wrist. Before she could react, Inumaki pulled her forward before running with him, and they tore off through the forest underbrush like two startled deer.

He's running so fast while still holding y/n's wrist until her mask caught on a low-hanging branch, snapping her back with an audible thwap.

"Oww!" She winced, taken aback and quickly adjusted her mask back in place.

"M-mustard leaf?" Inumaki halted mid-run, looking back at her with concern etched on his face. The poor boy always had the best intentions, even if he could only say a few choice words.

"I'm fine." she insisted, waving a hand to brush off his worry. They had no time to linger, danger was still breathing down their necks. They took off again.

The smoke wrapped around them like a cloak, dimming the already murky light filtering through the trees. They spotted a sturdy tree trunk, and without a second thought, they hid behind it for cover.

Y/n took a deep breath, trying to shake off the weird vibe in the air. "So, uh, how do we get back? It looks like we're being trapped." she said, glancing at Inumaki, fully aware he wouldn't respond in regular words.

"Fish flakes." he replied, still holding onto her wrist. The moment he realized it, he let go and quickly turned his face away.

"Salmon." Y/n said back without thinking. She figured if she tossed a little fish language into the mix, maybe it would make things easier. Plus, she had memorized his bizarre vocabulary, even if she had no clue what any of it actually meant.

Inumaki's cheeks turned a shade of crimson, and he shot her a surprised side glance. "Salmon, salmon." he added, letting out a light chuckle.

But Y/n kept a straight face, her mind racing with thoughts about their creepy surroundings. Just as she looked back at him, he quickly looked away.

Out of nowhere, a massive cursed spirit loomed in the distance. It was tan with eerie black lines sprawled across its body and branches from its eyes, looking like something straight out of a nightmare.

Special Grade Cursed Spirit – Hanami.

Both Y/n and Inumaki's eyes widened in disbelief. This thing was at least three times bigger than them—it wasn't even trying to be subtle about its size.

As if sensing them, the cursed spirit swung its gaze over, making their hearts leap into their throats. They froze like deer in headlights.

Then, in the weirdest twist of fate, the cursed spirit spoke, but its words came out as pure gibberish. It was a jumbled mess that sounded more like a bad remix than anything coherent.

"It's not talking normally. This is definitely abnormal."
Y/n whispered, trying to keep her voice steady despite her racing heart.

As the colossal cursed spirit shuffled closer, it babbled again, sounding even more nonsensical.
