~The sun hung high, casting a warm glow over the baseball field. Tokyo students in crisp white uniforms loomed like clouds, while their Kyoto rivals donned dark navy blue, reminiscent of the night sky. A gentle breeze swayed the trees, adding a touch of calm to the competitive atmosphere.
Y/n stood in the dugout next to Utahime, her mask tucked away since she would don a helmet once it was her turn to bat.
Miwa strode up to bat first. With a crack, she sent the ball soaring into the air. Momo, ever eager, ran off.
"NIISHIYA! DON'T RUN YET!!!!" Utahime yelled, her voice laced with irritation as she watched Momo's premature sprint.
"Huh? Isn't that how it goes? I run when the ball is hit, right?" Momo argued back, confusion and frustration.
"Momo... you basically ran out of the field." The words slipped out before she could rein them in, causing Momo to freeze mid-air, her foot suspended in an awkward position.
Next up was Noritoshi, his eyes shut tight as he took his batting stance. Y/n gawked, a mix of disbelief and admiration swirling within her. "How can he even hit the ball with his eyes closed..."
"KAMO! WHY DIDN'T YOU SWING? YOU CAN'T JUST STAND THERE!!"
Utahime's voice rang out, thick with frustration as Noritoshi somehow forgot to even attempt a hit the ball. Y/n lifted a hand to her face.
Just then, a friendly nudge against her arm broke her focus. She turned to find Itadori out of nowhere, smiling while gulping down water from a bottle, completely oblivious to the fact that he was on the opposing team.
"So, Y/n, do you know how to play baseball?" he asked, his tone light and casual.
Raising an eyebrow, Y/n glanced back at the field. "We'll find out later." internally noting that she hadn't touched a baseball in her life until now.
"Welp, I'm counting on you!" Itadori chirped, a teasing light in his eyes, fake coughing.
"ITADORI! WHY THE HELL ARE YOU ON THE OTHER TEAM?! GET BACK HERE!!"
"Okaka!"
Itadori snapped back to reality, surprise painting his features. "Wait, it's not allowed?" he asked, genuinely puzzled.
"Seriously?!"
"Get back." Y/n said, throwing him a dismissive sideways glance. With a wave, Itadori jogged off towards his team, settling down next to Inumaki and Megumi, who both looked equally confused.
"Yureiso-chan! It's your turn, firecracker!"
Gojo's voice rang out, playful and encouraging as he stood next to the battered box.
Y/n tensed for a moment. Her heart raced, adjusting her helmet slowly, feeling the cool metal against her forehead, and grabbed the bat before making her way to the plate.
"I hope I can hit it.."
"Salmon salmon!"
"Come on, Y/n! You got this!" Itadori's voice soared from the sidelines.
A tiny smile crept onto Y/n's lips as she nodded back, grounding herself. She took her stance, legs slightly apart, eyes locked onto the pitcher.
But...
The pitcher was.. Megumi. Pulling the ball back, his face as stoic as ever, and the field fell silent because of the two.
"O-oh..." someone cleared their throat.
