Joshua's POV
The lecture hall buzzed with excitement as students filed in for what they thought was a routine microbiology class. I stood at the front, exchanging a nod with Professor Meghan. The news we were about to share would change the course of the semester for a select few.
As the last students settled into their seats, I cleared my throat, drawing their attention.
"Good morning, everyone," I began, unable to keep a smile from my face. "Before we dive into today's lecture, Professor Meghan and I have an exciting announcement to make."
The room fell silent, all eyes focused on us. I saw Aina lean forward slightly, her brow furrowed in curiosity. The sight made my heart skip a beat, as it often did these days.
Professor Meghan stepped forward, her enthusiasm palpable. "The college has been given an incredible opportunity," she announced. "We've been invited to participate in a prestigious medical camp and hospital rotation in Finland this winter break."
A collective gasp rippled through the room, followed by excited whispers. I held up a hand, quieting them.
"Now, this opportunity is limited," I continued. "Only five students will be selected based on their GPA and overall performance."
The excitement in the room was tinged with nervous anticipation. I saw Aina exchange a glance with Noor and Bella, a mix of hope and determination in their eyes.
"Those selected will spend two weeks in Finland," Meghan explained. "You'll work alongside Finnish doctors, participate in cutting-edge research, and gain invaluable hands-on experience."
I nodded, adding, "Professor Meghan and I will be accompanying the group. We'll be there to guide you and ensure you make the most of this unique opportunity."
The room erupted in questions. "When will we know who's selected?" "What about the language barrier?" "Will this affect our credits?"
We answered each query patiently, watching as the reality of the opportunity sank in for the students. Throughout it all, my gaze kept drifting back to Aina. She remained quiet, but I could see the wheels turning behind her eyes.
As the class ended and students began to file out, still chattering excitedly about the announcement, I overheard Bella's enthusiastic voice.
"Can you imagine, Aina? Finland! It would be amazing if we all got selected!"
Aina's response was soft, almost wistful. "Finland... why does that sound so familiar?"
Her words sent a chill down my spine, reminding me of her memory loss. Could this trip trigger something for her? Was that a good thing or a risk?
As the last students left, Meghan turned to me, her expression bright. "Well, that went well! I can't wait to see who makes the cut. It's going to be an incredible experience for them."
I nodded, trying to keep my expression neutral despite the turmoil of thoughts in my mind. "Absolutely. It's a great opportunity."
"You seem distracted, Joshua," Meghan observed. "Everything okay?"
I forced a smile. "Just thinking about all the preparations we'll need to make. It's going to be a busy few weeks."
As Meghan left, chattering about logistics, I remained rooted to the spot, my mind a whirlwind of thoughts. The prospect of two weeks in Finland with a small group of students - with Aina - was both exhilarating and terrifying. I knew I'd have to be careful, to maintain professional boundaries while also being prepared for any unexpected reactions Aina might have.
Whatever happened, I knew this trip would be a turning point, not just for the students' education, but perhaps for Aina's journey to rediscover her past. And, if I was honest with myself, for my own journey of understanding my feelings for her.
As I gathered my things, I made a silent promise to myself and to Aina. I would do everything in my power to make this trip safe, educational, and potentially healing for her, no matter what challenges we might face in the snowy landscapes of Finland.

The anticipation in the lecture hall was palpable as Professor Meghan and I stood before the eager students. The list of names in my hand felt heavy with the weight of dreams and opportunities.
"Alright, everyone," I began, my voice steady despite the flutter in my chest. "We've reviewed all the applications and GPAs, and we're ready to announce the five students who will be joining us in Finland."
The room fell silent, a sea of hopeful faces turned towards us. I couldn't help but notice Aina, her fingers interlaced tightly on her desk, her eyes fixed on the paper in my hand.
"Here we go," I said, taking a deep breath. "The selected students are: Noor Ahmed, Bella Chen, Kaif Malik, Liam O'Connor, and... Aina Yılmaz."
The room erupted in a mixture of cheers and disappointed sighs. I watched as Aina's face lit up with surprise and joy, Noor and Bella enveloping her in a tight hug. The sight made my heart swell, even as I reminded myself to maintain a professional demeanor.
