CHAPTER TWELVE

~ Claire's POV ~
I came home from the job interview confident and happy. Until I saw Owen. He was sitting on the couch with his head in his hands.
"Owen? What's wrong?" I was worried about him. I didn't know what had happened but I knew it was bad.
"Claire, I saw Lauren. She told me. . . She wanted to get back together" I knew Owen would say no. He loved me and I loved him. "I said no but- but she told me if we didn't break up she would do something bad"
"What else did she say?"
"Nothing. Oh god Claire" Owen ran up to me and wrapped his arms around me. I started tearing up.
"It's ok. She can't do anything to me. Or us"
"I know. I know. But I don't want you to worry about anything"

~ Owen's POV ~
I knew Lauren was capable of doing something bad. She told the people I loved all things about me and her, that they never looked at me or spoke to me again. I didn't want her to do this to Claire. I loved her too much.
"Claire. Here is what I want you to do. I want you to carry on with your life. And I am going to be with you all the time. I promise nothing will happen to you" I turned Claire around and kissed her. My phone vibrated in my pocket. I pulled it out.

Have you broken up yet? Times ticking. xx L

"Who was that?" Claire asked.
"Barry" I lied. I didn't want her knowing what Lauren was capable of. I hated lying to Claire. But I had to, to make sure she was alright.
"What does Barry want?"
"Oh he was just making sure we got home safe" I knew I couldn't keep this up. But I just had to try.
"Ok. You can message him back, or call him if you want"
I turned on my phone, went to my messages and messaged her back.

Yes. We have broken up. I hope you're happy. Owen

I had to lie to Lauren to make her happy. At that moment I was lying to make people happy. I was a terrible person. But it had to be done.
