As the bus doors swung open, the fresh scent of pine and the sound of laughter enveloped us. I stepped onto the grassy ground of Sparrow Lake Camp, my heart racing with excitement. The counselors were bustling around, unloading our luggage and directing us to sit in front of them, a sea of eager faces framed by the towering trees.

"Welcome, everyone! We're so excited to have you here at Sparrow Lake Camp!" one of the counselors called out, a bright smile on her face. "Please take a seat in front of us, and we'll be assigning you to your cabins shortly."

Angelique, Amelie, and I settled down on the grass, soaking in the energy of the camp. A few counselors moved around, offering water and lemonade to the campers. I instinctively shook my head when a cheerful counselor approached us. "No, thank you!" I said, glancing at Angelique, who mirrored my response. Amelie, however, accepted a bottle of water, her eyes sparkling with excitement.

As we waited, the sun beamed down, and I felt a sense of belonging wash over me. This was it-our adventure had officially begun. The counselor with the clipboard called out names, and each time someone was assigned to a cabin, cheers erupted from the group.

"Cabin One!" she announced, and several campers jumped up, excitedly joining their new cabinmates.

As the names continued to be called, I leaned closer to Angelique. "I hope we're all in the same cabin!" I whispered, my stomach fluttering with anticipation.

Finally, the counselor called out, "Cabin Two! Natalie, Angelique..."

Angelique squeezed my hand, her eyes closed.

"Amelie..."

Amelie grinned, raising her hand as she bounced in her seat.

"Anddddd... Elyse!"

A rush of joy flooded through me. We were all in Cabin Two together! I couldn't believe our luck. We exchanged excited glances, our smiles stretching from ear to ear as we stood up to join the rest of the campers assigned to our cabin.

As we gathered with our new cabinmates, I noticed Amelie taking a sip of her water. Suddenly, her face contorted, and she looked down, frowning. "Wait, what's that?" She held the bottle out, and I could see something black floating in the water.

"Oh no, what is it?" I asked, concerned.

Amelie squinted at the bottle, and then laughed. "It's just a piece of dirt!" She chuckled, shaking her head as she took another sip. "Guess I'm not the luckiest with my water today!"

The other girls around us giggled, and just like that, the mood lightened. We were all a little nervous, but laughter was the best icebreaker.

The counselors began to guide us to our cabin, and I felt a surge of excitement. I was ready to meet our cabin mates and see what adventures await us in Cabin Two.

As we walked, I glanced at my friends, Angelique and Amelie, and whispered, "This is going to be the best summer ever!"
