Chapter 7: Building Bridges
The days rolled into weeks, and the hospital became a haven for Sidharth and Shehnaaz. Their bond grew stronger with each passing day, built on shared stories, laughter, and a deepening trust.
One afternoon, Shehnaaz was studying in the hospital library when Dr. Sharma approached her. "Shehnaaz, may I have a word with you?"
She looked up from her books and nodded. "Of course, Dr. Sharma."
They walked to a quieter corner of the library. "Shehnaaz, I wanted to talk to you about Sidharth's progress. He's made significant strides since you've been spending time with him."
Shehnaaz smiled. "I'm glad to hear that. He's a wonderful person, and he deserves to heal."
Dr. Sharma nodded. "He does, but there's something you need to know. His attachment to you is growing stronger every day. While this is helping him, we need to ensure it doesn't become a crutch."
Shehnaaz felt a pang of concern. "What do you mean?"
Dr. Sharma sighed. "Sidharth is using his connection with you as a way to avoid dealing with his trauma. While it's important for him to have support, he also needs to confront his past and heal independently."
Shehnaaz pondered his words. "What should I do?"
"Continue to be there for him, but encourage him to engage with therapy and other forms of support. He needs to rebuild his life, not just replace what he lost."
Shehnaaz nodded, determined. "I understand. I'll do my best to help him in a way that truly benefits his healing."
That evening, Shehnaaz joined Sidharth in the garden. He was sitting on a bench, staring at the setting sun. She sat beside him, and he turned to her with a smile. "Misti Doi, look at that sunset. Isn't it beautiful?"
Shehnaaz nodded, taking in the vibrant colors. "It is. Nature has a way of reminding us that there's always beauty, even after the darkest times."
Sidharth's expression grew serious. "Shehnaaz, I've been thinking a lot. You've brought so much light into my life. I don't know how to thank you."
Shehnaaz placed a hand on his. "You don't need to thank me, Sidharth. I'm here because I care about you. But there's something I need to talk to you about."
Sidharth looked at her, curiosity in his eyes. "What is it?"
She took a deep breath. "I think it's important for you to engage more with your therapy. Dr. Sharma and I both want to see you heal completely, and that means facing your past and working through it."
Sidharth's face fell slightly. "Are you saying I haven't been trying?"
"No, not at all," Shehnaaz reassured him. "You've made amazing progress, but healing is a journey. It's not just about moving forward; it's about understanding and accepting what happened. Therapy can help you with that."
Sidharth nodded slowly. "I understand. I'll try, for you and for myself."
Shehnaaz smiled warmly. "That's all I ask."
Over the next few weeks, Sidharth began to actively participate in his therapy sessions. He confronted memories of the fire, talked about Trisha, and slowly started to rebuild his sense of self. Shehnaaz was there every step of the way, offering support and encouragement.
One evening, after a particularly intense therapy session, Sidharth found Shehnaaz in the garden. "Misti Doi," he called, his voice filled with emotion.
She turned to him, concern etched on her face. "Sidharth, are you okay?"
He nodded, tears in his eyes. "I just realized something. Trisha will always be a part of me, but I need to live my life for myself. And you've shown me that I can."
Shehnaaz felt a lump in her throat. "I'm so proud of you, Sidharth. You've come so far."
He took her hand in his. "I couldn't have done it without you, Shehnaaz. You've given me hope."
As they stood there, hand in hand, the sun set behind them, casting a golden glow over the garden. It was a symbol of the new beginnings they were both embracing, together.
