"Enough, Mui!" I shouted, tears welling up in my eyes. Mui was always like this—bullying others just because they didn't have a quirk like him. "You already made him cry... Stop it! I won't let you."
"So, Tanj, the quirkless wonder... Thinks he can play hero, huh?" Mui sneered, his mist quirk swirling around him menacingly. It was always like this at school. Ever since quirks became the norm, those without them were treated like outcasts. But I wasn't going to let that define me.
People... are not born equal. That's the hard truth I learned at age four. But that... was my first and last setback.

It all began in Keikei City in China, with the news that a bioluminescent baby was born. After that, 'exceptional' individuals began popping up all over the world. The cause was unclear. Time passed, and the 'exceptional' became the norm. Fantasy became reality! At present, 80 percent of the world's population consists of superhumans with special abilities. The world is in chaos! In the profession that everyone once only dreamed about, entered the spotlight!
My name is Kamado Tanjirou, and I am part of the 20% of the world that is born quirkless...

I navigated the crowded, buzzing city street as people pushed and shoved to see the heroes take down a humongous villain. I stopped to look, like everyone else. The air was electric with excitement and awe, voices around me rising in a cacophony of admiration and speculation. Heroes were amazing. It was my dream to become one, even though I was quirkless.
"Look at that! It's incredible!" someone shouted nearby, their eyes glued to the scene unfolding before us.
"Can you believe it? Flasher is here!" another voice exclaimed. "He's new, but he's making a name for himself."
I was trying to see over everyone, stuck at the back of the crowd. The guys in front of me were talking about what had happened to make the villain go on a rampage. Determined, I pushed through the crowd to get a better look. "Oh, this is going to be good," I muttered to myself, gripping my school bag straps tightly.
"Look, it's Flasher! He may be new, but he's sure making a name for himself," I said, pointing excitedly.
"You're quite the fanboy, aren't you?" an old man next to me observed, chuckling.
"Sort of," I admitted, a bit embarrassed but too excited to care. "Look, it's his special move!" I pointed again, my heart racing.
"Come on, big man, show us something flashy!" the old man yelled, his enthusiasm infectious.
"Diamond Crystal Chain Prison!" Flasher's voice rang out as his attack began, a dazzling display of crystalline chains enveloping the villain. Just as the attack started, some giant person kicked the villain out of the train station, sending shockwaves through the crowd. Everyone was shocked, either in amazement or surprise.
Suddenly, people started snapping pictures of the hero who had intervened. "Cake Shot for the world! Next hottest hero! Hi everyone, I'm Lover, and I can turn love into strength, using it to make myself giant. Oh, and you don't have to worry about this bum anymore," she announced cheerfully.
With the rise of superpowers came an explosive increase in crime. Governments struggled to create laws that took quirks into account, while people began performing heroic acts to protect our cities from those who abused their powers. Heroes found their official place among society as peacekeepers. Those who performed the best got paid the most and enjoyed fame and glory. Their careers depended on their abilities to stay in the spotlight.
I scribbled down some notes in my quirk notebook and continued my way to school. The bustling city around me was a constant reminder of the world I lived in—a world where I was determined to make my mark, quirk or no quirk.

School was always a challenge. Being quirkless in a world where quirks were the norm made me an easy target. Mui, with his powerful mist quirk, was relentless in his bullying. He thrived on making others feel inferior, and I often found myself at the center of his attention.
As I walked through the halls, I overheard students talking about the latest hero sightings and battles. Their excitement was palpable, and I couldn't help but feel a pang of envy. I wanted to be a part of that world so badly.
