Athena glared at her father as he put on his clothes, clearly not planning on staying any longer in the hospital. The doctor walked in, also glaring at her father as he said, "Funny. I don't remember authorizing your release."
"That's because I didn't ask." John told the other man.
"You know, just because you feel like you're ready to leave doesn't mean you are."
"That's exactly what it means." John started to walk toward where his daughter was leaning in the doorway.
The doctor shook his head, "You know, I can have you restrained. Just let me look at the sutures. Come on," John looked at his daughter who raised an eyebrow and waved back toward the bed.
John sighed, seeing the worry in his daughter's eyes and moved back toward the bed. John sat on the bed, laying back as he unbuttoned his shirt so the doctor could look. The doctor lifted the bandage and observed the sutures and said, "I did my best to straighten the incision...Look's like your vet used a bread knife. Well, it's healing..." The doctor concluded as he made sure the bandage's were back in place. "Those should come out in a few days and then you'll be free to terrify small children at the rec center's pool."
Athena snickered along with her father and the doctor shook his head, "Not a joke. I want you swimming twice a week. With an instructor-"
"I know how to swim," John said indignantly as Athena smirked at her father.
"You don't know how to swim to rehab this. My office will put you in touch with a physical therapist. You're in this situation because you ignored your doctor. He saw a mass on your CT scan, he said schedule an appointment, and you didn't. And so now you've had major surgery for what a pill could've fixed." Athena was back to glaring at her father at those words while John avoided looking at her. "When's the last time you saw a dermatologist-"
"Oh for fuck's sake, Keith!" John growled when the other man had moved closer.
"Don't worry, I'll be making sure he keeps this incident in mind whenever he tries to avoid going to the doctor again." Keith smiled at Athena's words as a nurse rolled up with a wheelchair. John groaned but sat in the chair, willing to deal with the wheelchair if it meant he was quicker in getting out of there. Athena started to walk next to John in the wheelchair, John continuing to grumble at everything. "You know, I can now see how my boss felt when I wouldn't stay in the hospital a couple of years ago." Athena stated, a smirk playing at her lips.
John's head snapped up to her and he asked, "What? You were in the hospital? When? For what?"
She ignored his question's and again said airily, "It's good to know that I came upon my bullheadedness honestly."
"When were you in the hospital, Athena?" John again asked, Athena walking more quickly to get ahead of him, causing him to say to her back, "Athena Jade Dutton! What were you doing in the hospital?" He growled as she continued to ignore him, knowing she was doing it on purpose as payback. They reached the front doors, Athena shaking her head as her father got out of the wheelchair before the nurse could stop. She opened the back door to the Yellowstone truck, slamming it closed once she was inside as her father reached the passenger door, opening it and getting in. Athena laid across the back seat, laying her cowboy hat across her face as she ignored the two men in the front.
"You alright?" Kayce asked mid way through the trip, breaking the silence that had been encasing the truck's occupants.
"Yeah. Just hurts to sit." John answered, throwing a glance back at his daughter.
They suddenly went over a pothole, Athena huffing as she was jerked from it and hearing her father groan in pain. "Sorry. Didn't see that one." Kayce's voice came a moment later, probably in answer to John giving him a look. Athena felt the truck then ran over another pothole not a moment later.
