COFFEE. Coffee is all Sydney can think of this morning. It's barely seven and her body has decided to play some kind of cruel trick on her, forcing her awake far earlier than planned. She begrudgingly makes her way through the house, her eyes open just enough to stop her from falling as she reaches for the coffee machine. It's been updated since she was last here, a small detail she hardly has time to notice before her drink is finished brewing. The house is quiet, something her groggy mind is thankful for at this hour, as she slumps herself into one of the kitchen island chairs.

Several minutes of complete stillness drift by as Sydney sits frozen in place, too tired to even lift a finger while her coffee cools in front of her. Her eyelids grow heavy and slowly flutter shut. She's savoring the peaceful silence, maybe for a moment too long, because her head begins to dip ever so slightly.

"Mo-o-o-orning!" Her brother's booming voice shatters the quiet, snapping her eyes open in shock.

Sydney's hand flies to her chest, her heart racing. "Trevor, what the hell is wrong with you?!" she hisses. "It's barely seven in the morning—could you tone it down about five notches? Jesus Christ."

He rolls his eyes as he places a cup under the coffee machine. "You do realize seven is a normal time, right? It's not the middle of the night. Sorry some of us actually enjoy being functional in the morning."

If her brain wasn't so foggy, Sydney would have snapped back with something clever to shut him up. But the caffeine hasn't fully kicked in yet, so instead she just raises her middle finger and flips him off.

Expecting Sydney Zegras to be a morning person is like expecting a fish to walk on land—it's just not happening. She's never been a fan of waking up at this ungodly hour, especially when she doesn't have to—like today. And don't even bother trying to talk to her unless the clock shows double digits; in her opinion, speaking within the first hour of waking up should be illegal.
